Hi guys, I am looking at a 30-06 in a Tikka T3 battue with a 20" barrel, the normal T3 is 22 7/16". I've read lots of stuff about velocity, but there are many different opinions. Is 50fps per inch about right? If so 100fps or so doesn't sound like much of a handycap, what else is there to consider, noise,..? I would also like to take the sights off and scope it, I assume they just screw off not drift.

Thanks for your input,
Chad

Doubt if the loss is that much. Would be a bit louder. No idea how the sights are attached. If you are hunting with it, the game will never notice the difference.

I run shorter barrel rifles, and I have noticed that the 50fps/inch is usually bang on.
Therefor you can expect to see about 300 fps below published velocities with a 20" barrel.

Buying this as a gift for my dad and just don't want to buy a junker. I have 2 tikkas and love them, he hunts mostly in the bush and I reload. Has anyone handeld this gun, they probably balance and swing nice. Have a nice 3-9x40 scope all ready to put on what ever I purchase. $470 shipped is a good price hey?

Get the Tikka battue in .308, it has a smaller boiler room and matches the barrel length better. ;)

This way there is less chance of setting the woods on fire.
