Question that can probably be answered quick.

i am looking at an old ive johnson defender. is there a barrel length limit that could make it prohib?

No, only caliber and manufacture date can result in prohibited status. The defenders and defender 89's are all antique status as far as I know "date wise".
 
Only caliber and date are important. Now all Webly MK I Pistols are antique even though they have a 4 inch barrel .2 inches to short... It was setup that way to protect them from the scrap yard

If the gun is manufactured before 1898 and is of a caliber not listed on the no go list, barrel length means nothing towards negating antique status.

If it's in a no go caliber or post 1897 it is treated like any other firearm obviously.

I've gotten RCMP antique status letters for a number of antique handguns with barrels from 1 1/2" up to 8". My personal Colt Thunder 1877 (41LC) has a beautiful 2 1/2" barrel and a RCMP antique status letter.
