i've heard that barrels life is mostly dependant on thew speed of the projectile, and as such the 22-250, 220 swift are hard on barrels. is this true?
what would be the expected life of a 270 firing a 90 gr. at 3550 fps?

Generally barrel life is governed by the rate of throat erosion. Its not the bullet going down the barrel that wears it out. Large powder charges relative to bore diameter will erode a throat faster, as can high temperatures from rapid fire, etc.
Expected level of accuracy is also a factor. Serious target competition would probably require a higher standard of accuracy than big game hunting. It is not unusual for a barrel on a 6.5-.284 target rifle to be retired at 1000 rounds or so, whiile a .308 may remain competitive for 5000 to 7000.
