I don't know much about barrels in terms of what's available out there and what works with a 10/22.. If I were looking to upgrade the stock one, what should I look for? How much $$ for a decent one up here in Canada?

More info needed. What are you trying to accomplish? Tacticool, target plinker, competition rifle, shortie, offhand, bench?
Dlask is a well respected 10/22 barrel manufacturer and have production models ranging from 8" to 20" in heavy, stepped, fluted, and .750" OD SR-22 contour with sporter and match chambers available and custom barrels made for very reasonable prices. Production barrels range from $160 to $200. Mystic Precision can get you names like Shilen and McGowan. Bits of pieces sells Green Mountain.
Same deal with stocks. Lots of options from Promag, ATI, Butler Creek etc available from places like Hical.ca, Mystic Precision etc. Dlask sells hogue stocks.
Lots of options to pick from

I'm ok with a long barrel, I like the look of the fluted barrel and I'd like to know what an aftermarket barrel could offer over stock. Precision? Longer range? At what expense? Which barrels do what? I guess that's my main concern.. not knowing what barrel does what?

Nice! What is their length? What's the difference in performance between fluted and non-fluted?

Edit: MVM... found the option.. so what's the differnce in performance between a 16 and a 20 for example?

Ok so from this data I can see:

The longer the barrel, the higher the velocity, (and the lower the noise?)
Higher quality barrels seem to have a higher velocity for the same round.

I couldn't find any data on accuracy though..
