Happy labour day everyone.
I finally had time today to clean a couple of my rifles. Before I cleaned them I inspected them and in my .30-06 I found a small amount of rust colour at the muzzle. I didn't think much of it, but when I finished cleaning and reinspecting, I discovered that the small amount of rust has lead to some pitting. It looks like it goes in about 1 inch.
My question is how will pitting effect accuracy. Should I just continue to shoot this rifle till I find it no longer accurate? It has a mountain contour barrel. Can I have it reborred? Or should I rebarrel it?
The rifle in question is a mid 80s Remington 700ADL. It has been powder coated by Corlanes, wears a B&C stock and I am fond of the rifle. A rebarrel does open up other possibilities like the .338-06 and 35 wheelen.
Any advice?
