I really don't know much on barrels so I need some help, I need to get an idea of how much a barrel would cost and what would be a good brand barrel at low price?
What I would like to get is a 22" Heavy barrel, chambered in .223 Rem, Also what crown would be best for this barrel? I am only using it for target shooting from
100-600 yards. The ammunition I would be using is either hand loads or Winchester 55 Grain FMJ(I choose this stuff because it's cheap and I can buy it were I
work so I also get a 10% discount). I still really haven't decided on a stock.

My question about stocks are out of this list of synthetic stocks who can gets these stock in, and what am I looking at for price?
All Stocks are for Savage 4.40" Short Action, .223Rem, Drop Mag
1- McMillan A3, Olive Marble
2- McMillan M40A1 with adjustable Cheek piece, Forest Camo
3- HS Precision Pro 2000, Olive Web or Black
4- HS Precision M24 Tactical, Olive Web or Black
5- Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical, Olive Green with Black web
6- Choate Tactical, Black

Think you need to talk to Peter Dobson at hirsch precision and take a look at Dolphin stocks, they are pretty sweet. You say low price for a target barrel, you simply get what you pay for. I just built a custom in 308 and used a kreiger barrel from Peter and its a real tack driver so far.

Why handycap your self shooting 55gr FMJ stuff? I'd make sure your barrel is twisted 1-8" if your going with a custom tube.

Mcmillian if you want to spend the money and have 6 months to wait

Barrel is the most important part of the gun. Don't blow a ton on a fancy stock and go cheap on a barrel, that is absurd. Talk to Peter Dobson at Hirsch precison he carries some of the best barrels around or contact Ted Gaillard in Sask.

you may be further ahead to just buy a tactical style 223 with the features you want. Less money in the end.

What about a Remington XR-100 as an inexpensive platform to start. They are a single shot rifle to provide a stiff action. They come with
a 26" Heavy barrel with a 1-12 twist. The stock is a laminated thumbhole with a varmint style forend. You could shoot this rifle right out of the box, to "learn the ropes."

Thanks for the info, I have never heard of dolphin stocks, I'll go take a look at them.

That will most likely be the ammunition I buy for now until I am set up to reload, I do intend to hand load when I get that set up, was thinking about reloading Hornady 55 Grain Z-Max or 60 Grain V-Max.

I already have a rifle, a Savage 11 international Trophy Hunter in .223 Rem

I'll ask Jerry to see what I can get from him. Thanks for the Info
