Hello,

Here's my story. I have aquired from my dad a 70's .243 model 700 walnut stock varminter. But some years ago he got the barrel changed for a .308 but now I want absolutly to change it back. The local gunsmith will do it but since he is not familiar at all with precision rifle I would like to know what can be tricky about that.

Thank you very much.

do you have the original barrel? is your local gunsmith an actual gunsmith? It sure doesn't sound like it. The Model 70 has been a round since when? 1934 or something and a barrel change is a barrel change period.

It's the original barrel. I will check if he made index marks on both the barrel and receiver when he first got it off. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the .243 headspace gauge since it's not a typical caliber up here.

Could someone describe me the operations, I'm even tempted to try it myself if I see index marks. Does it need locktite or something like that?

Thank you very much.
