Barrel thickness to tap for chokes?

How do you tell if your shotgun barrel wall is thick enough at the muzzle to tap for chokes?

I was thinking of picking up an old over and under like a browning or a winchester and they seem to be mostly full/modified but some are skeet and skeet. Are these thick enough to thread for a removable choke?

I have a feeling the answer will be "take it to a gunsmith".

If you know the size of the tap that would be used you can measure your barrel to a minimum wall thickness of .018". No less.

Winchester Or Browning o/u made from the 1950's - the late 70's have very then wall thickness you must remove the choke taper to install tubes or shorten the bbls by 2'' at any case the best you could use would be the thin wall style and they are not compatible for steel shot .

I have a Win 101 sheet and the barrels ane very thin, won't work.
You are much better off trying to find something with tubes already
there.
