Here's (maybe) a dumb question ........

Can the threaded part of a bbl threaded for a 98 action be sleeved and rethreaded to fit a Remington 700??

thnx

It has to be turned and threaded smaller with a fine thread so when the bushing is threaded for the 700, it does not cut into the bushing thread. It has been done. It usually costs more than the labour for fitting and chambering a new barrel.

Thanks .... Are the threads on a 602 bbl the same as those on a 98?

.

98's are 12 tpi and can be two different diameters - roughly either 1 inch or 1.1 inches... I don't know if the 602's are metric.

Here it is ........

It is 12TPI

I think most large ring 98's are large thread. I think most small ring 98's are small thread but I have seen both large and small 98's with the "opposite" size thread.

......... so that bbl should screw right onto a large ring 98.

.

Probably. If it screws in, you will need to insure that indexing, barrel face to boltface gap and headspace are all good.
