Thought I'd post a little sumpin' I had made for testing on my eagerly awaited Dlask DAR-22 threaded receiver.
I had it made using a Dlask Reworked Levang Comp as a base. I had some positive indications that the Levang comp worked to improve accuracy in my current DAR 22 so I decided to use it as a base to make a barrel tuner.
I'm still learning about barrel tuners, but generally those that use them swear by them. I had been thinking about this modification for a while so I just decided to do it. There are other devices that use a similar method to apply adjustable weight to the barrel, but AFAIK nobody has been dumb enough to use a Levang as a starting point.
I had a machine shop thread the outside of the Levang and then had two threaded collars made to screw onto it. The threads are very fine and provide a lot of range of adjustment. The unit is adjustable throughout the whole length of the device and you simply have to tighten the two collars together to get it snug enough not to move easily. To help with this I had two holes drilled in each collar so I could get a small allen key in there. I'll have to use a magic market to mark the positions during testing, but no big deal.
So I'm hoping that this device will give me the best of both worlds; the bullet stabilizing effect of the Levang, combined with the barrel dampening effect of the added weight of the collars. The new DAR-22 threaded receiver should be a real tack driver on it's own, and I'm not sure that I have the skill to realize the small benefits this muzzle device will provide, but I look forward to the fun of finding out!
Yes I know it looks like hell, but I won't care if it helps shrink my groups.
