Barrels for M14 18.5"?

Coming from Krieger, I'm sure they'd all be adequate, but I guess you'd need to consider what weight bullet you want to shoot to decide if you need the faster twist(s). Are you going to be shooting past 600 yards? This seems to be the point that the heavier bullets really become an advantage.

1:12 certainly does well in usgi barrels, I wouldn't change without doing some research to be sure it will serve your needs better.

most places test with a 20 inch thought don't they

Lots of factory ammo is tested with a 24" barrel if that's what you are referring to. For example it is listed in the data for Federal ammo as "T.B." for "test barrel" and shows "24" on .308 loads.

Well I am sure that czechitout will post on shortly about his Norinco Scout it has had the barrel cut down and the accuracy was impressive at 100m it was getting 3 rounds touching on a ML2 aimpoint sight pretty impressive using a cut down chrome lined barrel

Does anyone in Calgary area (or Alberta for that matter) do the barrel chop and re-thread? Or is this something I need to send to the aformentioned guy in Ontario?

I also want to replace the flash hider/ front sight with something better, mine is ready to fall off. Along with a better rear sight. Any other mods I should do??

My gas nut (nut at the end of the gas tube) likes to turn itself loose. Any ideas? Just blue locktight??

I do like the barrel chop idea (kept to 18.5 though as I want to keep it unrestricted) but want to do it right if I do it.

thanks

Are you sure they are in town...thought they were on Ontario near Ottawa??

I know 2 or more who could do the barrel shop + Re-crowning

1) Lock N' Load
2) HWSNBN in Calgary aka Rick T
3) P&D Enterprises gunsmiths & friends.

Doh, I guess I should read the whole web page. I guess he started in Edmonton and is now in Petawawa. :D :runaway:

I was always one of those kids who got smacked by the teacher for not reading the whole page

I dont know the first 2??????

Edmonton? Do we know if they do this MOD? or are we being hypothetical?

Hans

Think of rifling and twist rate's as thread's on a bolt. Cut it where ever you want,it wont affect or change it in any way.
But screw up the crowning.....:runaway:

Lock N' load is a small gunshop in Edmonton West...

the 2nd is known as Alta Tact Rifle Supply or A-T-R-S in cowtown...All 3 can do the mod.

I'm getting one of my Norc's shopped off to 18.5'' for ''Bush'' utility reasons..It'll be an economy SOCOM w/optics...very similar to Skooch's.

The other one will remain as is (Iron sights & 1907 sling), with minor mods for better accuracy at service rifle matches...
