What barrel would you choose?

This question has been asked on 6BR.com There are good and bad in every brand, but there are definitely brands that gunsmiths prefer because of trueness, steel quality and dimensional consistency.

It is BECAUSE we invest so much time and money in waiting for guns to be built and components to be ordered, that I learned to rely on components (and particularly barrels) with the best reputation. I had a bad experience where after waiting a year for an action and 6 months for a barrel and installation the 6BR did not shoot worth a damned. Every type of bullet and powder combination resulted in the same mediocre results. Only after re-barreling did I see that the problem had been the barrel. Within my circle of shooting friends, the same brand has a bad reputation. Not all barrels are created equal.

The Canadian Fullbore Team to the 2011 World Championships includes several Canadian Hall of Fame Shooters. They did a great deal of research to come up with a team barrel and they chose Krieger.

I have had a few Gailard barrels and was happy with some and not so happy with others. I also think the the shot count is a little low on them. I am not saying I would never buy another but I am thinking of trying something different this time. Of the three in the poll I think they are all good and it will be availability more than anything that will decide which one I go with.

A) I am having good luck with
Shilen select match stainless

B) I am having ok luck with
Krieger stainless
Lothar Walther Chrome Moly

C) Not as good with
Hart
Pac Nor
Parker Hale
Remington factory
Ruger factory
Green Mountain

D) Bad with
Addams and Bennett

Have not tried my Lilja.

The problem is that my results don't mean anything.
Everything I do is an out of control test with respect to barrel testing.

All the custom barrel makers are great. A Krieger today might be better than a Hart, but tomorrow the Lilja will out shoot the Gailard, etc ,etc. I buy what is available from Canadian suppliers at the time I need it.
