Barrett 98 Bravo?

If I am going to spend that kind of money on a rifle, I would go custom in a heart beat! That way it will be EXACTLY what i want. It wont just be another gun that a million other guys have and custom rifles typically hold their value better than most factory, run-of-the-mill stuff. They are usually more accurate too!

I don't think that it is necessarily true that custom guns hold their value as well as factory ones - too many variables and also if a person is spending cash on a custom it is desirable to have it customized to your specs not what someone else had custom made. This brings me to the next point - one on which we obviously agree - the big deal about getting a rifle made for you is that it is exactly that: made for you.

Customs generally don't holf their value better than most factory rifles. If you've ever tried to sell one, you'd know that. Take a look on the EE. There are lots of guys trying to sell them and not many takers. Just look at all the "BTT's" in the ads.

It's a buyer's market.

Not trying to start anything, but I think there are "customs and customs" .
A bubbaed or modified factory rifle I would agree can loose value rapidly.
BUT a full custom rifle based on a higher end well known parts and made by a known and respected gun maker can significantly INCREASE in value with time.
Rigby, Purdey, Hollland and Holland are all shining examples of this.

If a short term buy and sell is the case, EVERY gun gets devalued, but if the gun is kept for some time nearly every gun appreciates. If I had had any clue that in 30 years an Enfield I paid $10.00 for would be worth over $1000 I would have bought ALOT more of them.

I DO agree that in the current economy it IS a buyers market.l

Agree, any one wish to purchase custom or any product, a short period of researching into is a must.

Not to sound stupid but thats what I was doing here. Thank you guys for your input thus far on the Barrett. I will have to do alot of reading the next while before I sink that much in a rifle. I do like the look of the Barrett I would love the chance to try one. But in the mean time I think I will keep looking.

Most of us try to ignore gunboy
His signature line speaks volumes.
Good luck on your quest

I still say you should look into a Timberwolf. Fantastic rifle and great customer service.

Timberwolf are a Beautiful gun, a real sniper grade, been proven in Afgan, not some Red neck Garage Gun Smiting-Tactical this or That.
