I just got myself a Barrett MRAD, and I have some questions.

Where is the best place to get the "GO" and "Field" gauges shown in the manual.

Any special blends people have been mixing for 338?

What other accessories should I add to the case and range bag for it?

I already added the Atlas V8 bipod and Monopod still trying to determine the optic.

I can already tell this is going to hurt the bank account to keep this thing fed, and build my dope.

You forsure want some quality glass such as Leupold/ night force/ S&B and make sure your mounts are also high quality. As for feeding it. You might get lucky and the gun might like Sellier& Bellot 250gr match ammo. If not your looking at $5-8 a round. As for loading im still working on reloading for my MLR so I have no hard numbers yet. But Barnes TSX 250gr over 84gr of IMR 4831 was giving me 1-1.5" groups at 300yards

I am truly confused as to why you would need chamber gages? It is not like you can adjust head spacing in most rifles on a whim.

Forget the chamber gauges... those are not something you should ever need as a user.

For .338, if you are reloading and want to get way out there, I would suggest sticking to the heavier bullets like the 300gr projectiles.

I have been getting good results with 300gr SMK projectiles on top of 89.0gr of H-1000, but you will need to see what your gun likes.

Don't skimp on the optic, at minimum I would suggest a Vortex, but a Nightforce or an S&B is much more suited to rifles like this. Stick to MOA reticules.

Accessories?

-All hex key/ torx keys that you need to completely strip your rifle down.
-Old thread together cleaning rod to clear any stuck cases or projectiles. (useful in all situations.)
-Basic cleaning kit, oils, copper brushes, patches, solid cleaning rod, etc.
-Rear bag... plenty on the market, but coretac solutions makes a nice one, just to throw out a name.
-lens cleaning cloth.
-Flip open scope covers... attach to the scope obviously.
-Dope chart. Chronograph your load, run your numbers through a ballistic calculator, and print out and laminate a dope chart to keep in your gear for when your phone dies.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I am sure there is more.

I have had really good luck with Sellier & Bellot ammo from Wolverine Supplies last summer. The stuff was more accurate than I could ever hold the MRAD in my possession with Schmidt & Bender PSII. :D

Enjoy the addiction!

Cheers,
Barney

funny enough mine shoots 300 gr smk 2600fps and 225 gr barnes ttx @2900fps as well. I had the barnes left over from my remmy 338. I didn't think the tight twist would like them. I'm sure 250 will be ok. 300 smkhbt will be my go to load over 7828 for now. h1000 works too and I have some 4831sc to try next.

I thought I replied to this yesterday about ordering the .308 barrel as well for this shortly and why I wanted the headspace gauges.

I have 300, 225 grain bullets I would like to use but think that this barrel would be better suited for more weight 24.5" barrel.

I love this rifle already, pictures don't do it justice this thing is a tank but still light enough to carry. Can't wait to shoot it and have to wait for the bank account to recover to order an S&B scope.

Conversion kits should already be headspaced from the factory. If Barrett is saying to use a go/no go gauge each and every time you change a barrel its either to cover their ass for liability reasons or you need to ditch that platform and go with Desert Tech or Accuracy International.

Do be patient and wait for the pm2, buy once cry once. I use mine on three rifles with the zero stop set for my 45moa 50bmg rail. I know my zeros and find this to be a good way to go until I can justify a second one

ATRS; He wouldn't need them unless he's switching caliber bolt faces and barrels as the multi role allows?

I have several multi caliber rifles personally and we build several every year and none of these require gages.
I would have thought that Barret would have their rifles engineered well enough that the consumer could simply change the parts and be good to go.
It would seem that my understanding is incorrect.

Has anyone confirmed that they do recommend them or are they just making them available as an accessory for military equipment checks? I'll check my manual this evening unless someone knows the answer already.

I don't intend to swap calibers on mine so non issue to me.

The owners manual lists the head-space inspection instructions for the gauges immediately after the section on barrel install. It does not say they need to be used on each barrel swap but the proximity in the manual might imply that...

The only place I can find it stated to be done is for before and after firing/ preventative maintenance inspection at the end of the manual

If you want a good scope for your MRAD then get a Nightforce with the BORS system can't go wrong with that set up and you will be able to hit out to 1000 yards no problem.
