Barretts new .416 barrett rifle can we import

I note that Barrett says that their other .50 rifles will be available in the new caliber. Some Barrett .50s are prohibited by name; no doubt the .416 versions will be considered variants. The primers would still be subject to the US export embargo.

Apparently it won't be allowed into Canada because the .416 is basically a necked down .50 BMG and the rifles can easily be converted back to .50 Cal. I think there's a thread on one of the newsgroups here about this.

i don't think the 99 would be prohibited. the m82 is a semi, and the 90 is a bolt action with a magazine. the 99 is a single shot. as for variant, the 90 was called 90 because of the year, 99 was 99 because of the year. not because it was on the '90' series of rifle.

What qualifies as a variant of the "90" is well out of my expertise. The "99" may be so far removed from the 90 and 95 that it shouldnt be considered a variant, but it could still make the prohib list.

Who knows. We may never see a bulletin for this as long as the export ban is in place. However if the ban disappears...

Pavehammer...here's the bad news:

Firearms Prescribed as Prohibited

99s ARE legal in Canada... says so on Wolverine's site. Its the US State Dept. that doesn't allow them out of the US.

I doubt the US State Dept. will allow export of that rifle either. They don't allow 338 Lapua out. Try and get and AR-30... and this round is bigger.

To my understanding the .416 is banned for export from the states like the .50 due to the fact it can be made into a .50 same bolt, not banned or restricted by Canadian law. If you are interested in the .416 caliber as I am, Alberta tactical will be building .416 caliber rifles. There are a few threads on this in the Precision rifle forum that may offer you guys a bit of info on it.
