Just got my new rifle Savage 10 FCP in .223 and I'm in the market for a set of bases, could use some help? Leupold 2 piece STD or go with a 1 piece picitinny or MOA base?

the type of shooting will be to 600 yards max, but most will be under 300 for varmint.

1 piece works the best 0 MOA but that should be decided by the amount of elevation that the scope has and the type 1/8 MOA or 1/4 MOA adjustments.I have had scopes with 1/8 MOA adjustments and reaching 300m was nearly imposible I ran out of adjustment on the dial with the 0 MOA base had to remedy the problem sold the scope and got 1 that easily reaches 900m with room to spare

Right now I'm still in the market for a scope my first choice in a scope was a Nikon 4-14x40 with 1/4 MOA adjustments the second choice was a 6-18x40 with 1/8 MOA. still looking at other scopes, tring to find a nice set up for my price range would like a mildot but both the Nikons are Duplex.

One possibility - good ole Weaver alloy bases and Burris Sig ZEE rings with inserts. If you want/need to shim for LR, you can get a shim kit that can go as much as 30mins of adjustment so you can tweak to whatever you need.

MOA bases are nice but can be quite tall (EGW are low) and unless you really want to shoot a long ways, may cause more trouble then it is worth.

The comb on a factory Savage isn't all that tall so a high base may make cheek weld uncomfortable.

Let me know if I can help you source scopes, bases, etc.

Enjoy the rifle....
