I came into possession of a sportered swede m96 that I want to turn into a project for me. Among other things it will be mounted with some glass.
I am looking for experienced advice from others who have done this with a m96.
I'm looking for solid base/ring combinations that would fit a m96 as well as the scope's objective lens. I am leaning toward a Leupold scope in the 3-9x range with a 40 or 50 objective.
Will either of these scopes fit this rifle with having decent eye relief, and what would you mount it with?

2 things you will run into with scopeing '96 sporters.
1)Unless the bolt handle was professionally replaced or bent/ground properly, that will be a limiting factor on how low you can mount a scope.
2)Depending on where the bases were drilled, you may need extension rings.
Done right you can mount low rings with a 40mm objective, med for a 50mm.
I generally stick with weaver type bases, and warne make a nice steel set that are for unaltered Mausers.

You will also need a low profile safety.

Have you installed these bases on a 96 that still has the hump ?

Yes, both '96 and '98 actions. The '96 rear base is relieved at the front to clear the charger, holes are a little closer together then a standard weaver #55.
'98 has the rear cut on an angle so not to interfere with the bolt handle.
