I guess I`ll try this in the precision rifles forum as I didn`t get any responses in the Hunting forum and since I don`t hunt and want to make this rifle a better shooter, it fits here!
I purchased a Savage 110 a while back and haven't had a chance to get it out of the safe in years. ARs and pistol kind of took over for a while! I don't have too much information on it and was wondering if anyone would help me out? I know it is a Savage 110 in 300 Win. Mag. with a wood stock and blued barrel (and is left handed, like me). It originally came as a package but that scope is long gone and has been replaced with a Nikon 6-18 Buckmaster.
-Since buying it I have gotten into reloading and was wondering what the barrel twist is (and even length to be honest!) I think it is 1:10 and 24 inches based on my research but I wanted to be sure.
-I don't really hunt so I was thinking of starting my first semi-precision project and would like to come up with a decent load. Any suggestions for starting points? I'm currently getting around 1.5-1.75 inch groups at 100 with factory and found my rifle likes bullet weights around 180g best, but am very open to suggestions!
-I have been looking into buying a Boyd's stock and bedding (it would be my first attempt!) the action but I was wondering if it was really worth it and if this platform is realistically capable/worth working with? Would it even be worth getting a new stock or would bedding the stock stock be worthwhile - it came with the standard wood stock. I'm quite happy with the Accutrigger for now so I was looking for tweaks or modifications or tips on getting the most out of it.
Thanks and any other info you can provide would be awesome!
