I had my Winchester Model 88 out for the hunt this fall and it received a couple of dings. I'm planning to refinish the stock this winter.

I was wondering if anyone knows how the original basket weave pattern was applied. Is it impressed into the wood with a die under pressure?

I'm concerned that the water based strippers that I prefer might raise the wood grain and destroy the pattern.

Has anyone had any experience with this problem?

Tnx. mb

So don't use a greenie water based stripper. Go with a nasty baby-seal killing eco-terrorist methyl chloride stripper. They probably work better, anyway ;)

The stuff I have says specifically that it won't raise the grain
