I could not find a fishing section therefore, the hunting section is the next best thing. I use to venture into BC to camp and fish for smallmouth bass. Limit was 4 per day, now it is unlimited. The BC fishng regulations state that they are an invasive speciies. Is the BC government trying to exterminate these wonderful fish, or is it because thay are so plentiful? Thanks!

It's in the Kooteneys, I'm leaving tomorrow morning with my grandson for a couple days. It's been about 8 to 10 years since I been there and notice that catch is unlimited for smallmouth bass. I'm sure my trip will not be in vain, there was always plenty of bass around.
They're in quite a few places. Mill Lake in Abby has largemouth, as mentioned Cultus has smallmouth. Albert Dyck Park/whamsley lake has both I'm told, my kid has only caught Larry's there though. Osoyoos lake has both - my youngest caught a decent large on a jitterbug a few weeks ago in osoyoos, while my other son caught a pair of smallies and a big carp. Vaseaux Lake between osoyoos and penticton is supposed to be a good spot, I'll be hitting it in a few weeks with my kids on our annual summer road trip...
Long story short, there are quite a few spots with bass. Which is good because my kids love fishing for em!
Make sure you check the regs (although it sounds like you already have). Some regions have banned fishing for them to reduce "private introductions", and only specific lakes are you allowed to target them.

I’m jelly, I really miss bass fishing. Great action and we always enjoyed eating them.
If you're still in the okanagan there's gotta be something within an hour or two I'd think?

There’s some in the south Ok and in the Kootenay’s but I never seem to have the time during the summer to get away for fishing trips, unless I end up on a work trip near something. I’ve turned into an ice fisherman for some reason, no bass fishing locally as far as I know it.
back about 20 years ago there was a fellow cruising around BC trying to sell all the tackle shops his custom made bass gear.
He was a dedicated individual despite the fact that bass were not plentiful in this province .... with a few exceptions. On Vancouver Island there is at least on popular lake stocked with bass. What Kind I don't know. Also as mentioned by someone else , several of the man made ponds as well as natural habitats also have bass. So this guy that was selling tackle was found to be part of a group of guys that had moved to BC from out east and missed thier bass fishing. They missed it so much they were catching and keeping live bass and transporting them from the okanagan to lowermainland sloughs and ponds. They were know as the "Bucket Brigade" and there were quite a few lowermainland anglers, deeply involved in cutthroat trout and steelhead recovery that absolutely cursed those guys and were always on the lookout to get them busted. It was believed by many in the local industry that the guy trying to sell all the stores his custom bass gear, was the head of the bucket brigade. He earned a pet name amongst the business members as "that B#######" and his Bucket Brigade.
It is widely believed that this handful of morons is responsible for both types of bass , as well as crappy and bluegill being illegally dumped in waters that during high water events , which are frequent in the lowermainland..... those fish get into other systems connected to the fraser.
In the South eastern part of the province where these fish have been around for decades , thier presence is no longer wanted as river systems connected to the lakes known for bass are being rehabilitated for salmon and steelhead recovery.

I just got-off the phone with the owner of Baynes Lake General Store. I phoned to inquire if they sold non-resident fishing licenses. He replied, "yes". Also, he answered my question regarding the unlimited daily harvest. he stated that the reason is it unlimited is because, "THERE ARE TO DAMN MANY OF THEM". Hmmm, that made me, "DAMN HAPPY!!!" My grandson and I should have a hoot, dispite the hot temperatures.
My grandson and I had a great time. Weather was pleasant, accompanied by fun fishing and swimming. We managed to catch 23 smallmouth bass, most small however, they will taste great. Water levels are about 4 feet below normal because of drought conditions over the past few years.
