Bass Pro Shops in Alberta

Driving home from Calgary yesterday I drove down the service road by the big mall they are building in Balzac just south of Airdrie. Sure enough there is a small sign with the Bass Pro logo on it directing workers to the jobsite. The building is framed in and the frame looks exactly like that of other Bass Pro stores. No official word on the Bass Pro website yet but the building is undeniably a BPS. It's going to be huge!!!!

Considering BC offers the best hunting and fishing in North America it amazes me why Bass Pro Shops or preferrably Cabelas hasn't set up shop here.

Thus the name "Bass Pro Shops". They're a tackle store not a shooting/hunting/gun shop. Great place if you want to buy rubber worms. I think the Cabela's expansion into Canada will affect WSS more than BPS will.
 
well at least with a store like that in the western prov.s..

The more competition the better. In Calgary we have WSS, Russell's (owned by WSS) and Canadian Tire (who just call up WSS and price exactly the same as them). Not a lot of price competition here... oh there is the Shooting Edge if your into expensive tactical stuff...

Oh I just found out about Pro Line, havn't been there yet, but it's a small shop...

The work force that they will hire to run the new store, where do you think they are going to come from? sure there will be some upper management from the USA, but the bulk of the staff are going to be local folks that know little relative to avid outdoors people.
I will stop in and have a look, but realistically how much better will it be than what we already have?

Cabela's is great because unlike WSS and/or SIR I can buy a wide assortment of decent waterfowl hunting/dog training products at Cabela's.

I would not expect anything better in the way of service.

Why "I" go to places like BP when I can, is to get a hands on look at stuff that I have seen in the catalogs, in order to decide whether I will add them to my list of stuff that I might treat myself to when I can afford it.
If they have anything worth checking out on display, so much the better.

Strange as it may seem, I would rather mostly be ignored by the staff, rather than have every one that I walk within sight of, asking me if they can help. I have been in stores where I resorted to ignoring the staff outright, while trying to browse through the aisles, in places where the sales folk are on commission (electronics places), and have gotten tired enough of being hounded by staff, that I left a couple of them. I would much rather be able to find them when I need them, rather than tripping over them all the time.

I won't make a special trip to go to the BP shop, but I will plan time to see it when they are open, and I am in the 'hood.

Was talking with the guys yesturday the opening is going to be pushed back as their is a water problem in Airdrie. When the opened the store in Ontario it certainly made an inittial impact on the local stores and the week didn't make it but now when I talk to most of the local dealers they tell me thier buisness is even stronger now that BPS are here so go figure huh!!!!1

Did you happen to notice the elaborate wild life displays, the waterfalls etc how about the incredible selection of goods not found in our local stores?. I spent 4 afternoons in the BPS in Denver CO and 2 afternoons in Cabelas out of Dallas TX and the entire time I felt like a kid in a candy store. I moved back home to the Okanagan from Calgary of 5yrs and will definately be making road trips to BPS when it opens.

Other than their clothes and excellent restrooms I have found another pleasant thing about Bass Pro.

I was there last week and bought some socks they had on sale. As I was checking out the nice lady asked me for my phone number. That really pisses me off when they ask that and I never give it. But at that moment I had an insipiration and told her it was 416-325-1941.

That isn't my number. That is the main number for the Office of the Premier of Ontario.

Wonder if BP will call and ask if Dalton likes the socks. :D
 
Bass Pro is a good place to buy camo. Lots of selection in all sizes. The only other redeeming feature about the Ontario outlet is that it is half-way between my home and Epps and if I need to take a whiz they have much nicer washrooms than most service centres.

In the west, everybody just pulls on to the shoulder of the road, gets out and pisses in the ditch! Even some of the girls!
