Well, after some time trapping I took off to Orlando to warm up a bit and happened to come upon a place called "Bass Pro Shop".........and I went inside.

Canada needs a place like that. Actually, Canada needs 10 places like that.

And they had BP patches in 0.10".........and 98% DEET bug spray. And I bought some of both.

There were as many kids in the store as adults (my two boys included).
They thought the place was like a little bit of heaven.

As I looked around at all the hunting and shooting gear, I realized how close we are to losing all this in Canada. Gun registration, handgun bans, anti-hunters, incapable people leading stupid people, etc. Worst yet was thinking that we all talk about it, yet do very little.

I compared Canada to the US a bit in how we deal with stuff like this; how they have shot their President/Senator/Govenor (a little harsh), large protests, civil unrest. What do we do in Canada? We complain at the coffee house, ##### on the internet (like now), etc.

The only real difference is casting your ONE vote. Multiplied by all the other guys and gals who think alike and suddenly the Liberals are gone.

Vote Conservative for many reasons; our shooting sports are but one reason.

Kinda weird how some time spent in the bush and some time spent in another country will make you think about what you have and what you can lose, eh?

Yes bartender, I will have another JD on the rocks.... ...thank you very much.

Agreed, I was happy to see BP make the move up here, but after all the stories I have heard, I suspect that it may have been better if they stayed south of the border rather than deal with all of our ####.

The Canadian Bass Pro is NOTHIN compared to the US ones.

Gun Stores- Bass Pro

While it is true that the stores down south are better, at a time when over the last 5 years several stores have closed that l know about. lt is still nice to see that a U.S. store like Bass-Pro comes to and opens in Ontario.:)

Yeah... and they would sell out hunters in a second (the way they did target shooters).

I refuse to ever spend another dime there.

Support a small business that actually stands up for you.

Can you give me more details about that?

I was in Winnipeg today for the day and on my way from the airport to downtown I saw SIR to I thought on my way back, I will go in there. So I do my work and on my way back, I stop in.
Now I would much rather shop in the Bass Pro shop in the vaughn mills then go to SIR again. SIR was nice but Bass Pro is so much better. A
At Bass Pro, they just need more people behind the gun counter because there is usually only like 2 or 3 guys and like 20 people wanting to be helped.

I've gone into the Bass Pro as Vaughan Mills a few times and I have never been able to find what I'm looking for, or if they do, they only carry brand X, and no others. I've also found the staff to be less than knowledgable and downright rude.

I've only been to Bass pro once, I got a $50 gift certificate for my birthday and went there to spend it (brought some additional cash as well). I had a list of stuff I was looking for that added up to a lot more than I had to spend. I ended up buying a brick of 22 ammo just so I could use up the $50. This was shortly after they opened and some of what I was looking for was just out of stock. I have to say though that the staff I talked to went above and beyond. They took the list I had( 2 staff members) and spent about a 1/2 hr walking around the store with me trying to find what I was looking for. I wouldn't say they were terribly knowledgeable, but they were from the archery department, not the gun department.

I'm not at all happy with the Vaughn Mills staff, prices(in MOST cases)and more importantly the customers.Yes the patrons(if you want to call them that)especially the ones at the gun counter are just there to kick tires, show their PAL so they can shoot the #### with the guy/gal behind the counter and waste his time and anybody else's time, who actually might want to spend some loot in the store. Its no wonder the people behind the counter quite often have ####ty attitudes,-having to keep taking firearms down and then putting them back all day would start to piss me off too.
Prices at the store, almost ALL of the time are higher than at least several other stores that I frequent. In fact I paid 90 dollars less for my varmint rifle and over 100 dollars less for my spotting scope, elsewhere.
I can usually buy a pound of powder for about six bucks cheaper than Bass Pro sells it for aswell.

Having said that,it is a big step in the right direction. If they could only stock it more like the American outlets and build more of em.
Anyway.........YES, vote conservative and maybe the Americans will see a less hostile environment to do business in ,perhaps erect afew more of these places which would lead to better prices.

And for you tire kickin bastards.............Knock it off ;) . NO, I dont work behind the counter of any store ,of any kind. I probably wouldnt last a week :)

Be careful what you wish for people... big box gun stores are not what we need to keep the shooting sports alive.
Bass Pro does not sell firearms any cheaper than any small gunstore in Ontario... the only deals are on their own proprietary brands, that quite frankly are crap!
You cannot buy handguns or get any kind of personal service... forget ordering anything.
Yes... I have a vested interest in a small gunstore... and yes I support all the small gunstores in Canada... If you want to continue hunting and shooting and buying your supplies just down the road, I suggest you do the same.:)

While it's nice to have a lot of stuff at one location, i agree with Bigredd here. The smaller gun shops are there to serve you. They will always do a better job in that department. The big stores, you deal with some joker that just wants a job, not someone who has to please you to make a living like you do with a mom and pop store.
I've spent money in three small Ontario gun shops this month. Have you given them your support?

I think bass pro sucks. I have tried to spend money there several times and left dissapointed each time. I found it very difficult to get any help and the staff to be less than knowledgable and rude. Bass Pro cares more about selling camo toilet paper to tourists than rifle to hunters/shooters. Just my 2 cents

+1 on that if you want great service and they will bend over backwards for you try out places like williamsarms in Port Perry and other small gun stores. Id rathe spend a few bucks more and drive alittle farther

I'm with BigRedd on this one!
Not only will we get stuck with whatever they will decide to (not) bring, but I visited them not only in Toronto.
The one in Detroit isn't much better. Big (read HUGE) difference between Bass Pro and Cabela's. The guys at the Optics counter were more than helpful, but you can't compare the quality from Cabela's and the diversity....not to mention the deals....
Until a while ago, Cabela's had most of their used/clearance rifles on a rack(s) that wasn't behind the counter and no locks!!!! Now they put trigger locks but still you can "feel" most of them without waiting in line for help half an hour. Looking forward for one in Ontario

aaah, almost forgot! What about the gun room... all the good respectable rifles Mausers in 375 , 470 doubles.... ohhhh goose bumps just to think about them.
I vote Cabela's as the best store I've been in. It's worth the trip!!!
