Bass Pro Shops / Vote Conservative

I've gone into the Bass Pro as Vaughan Mills a few times and I have never been able to find what I'm looking for, or if they do, they only carry brand X, and no others. I've also found the staff to be less than knowledgable and downright rude.

Same,

Had a US catalogue with me (last spring opening) to have an idea what I wanted and ....forget it , they barely had the minimum and most real and good deal, well, they didn't have those in stock..just in the US, they replied.

I have to say that they have an amazing store, very well decorated with multiple eye catchers, a very nice aquarium setup :) and lots of clothing. They had some good deal but nothing to compare with their U.S. location. Managed to spend more then I was supposed to but eh  , .. that's my problem...

Still nice to have them comming to Canada. changes from the Baron ....

Good discussion here, as usual..........

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments expressed to keep our small gun shops in business, this is VERY VERY important.

But you know what? My best buddy's son Marc works at that Bass Pro Shops store north of Toronto, and I went down to have a look. Marc was on days off so he was my guide and cheerleader. I probably spent two hours, maybe a bit more, in the store, and it was FABULOUS. Some prices were incredibly cheap, some prices were so-so, some prices were ridiculously high. But I am a reasonably well-informed consumer, so I know what I am willing to pay for stuff.

I bought a PILE of goodies, including bullets far cheaper than I have seen them anywhere else (example: Hornady .22 cal 50 gr V-Max for $12.99 per 100), a lot of hard-to-find fishing stuff, and some clothing. Their hunting socks with the lifetime guarantee are absolutely the best socks I have worn in fifty years afield, PERIOD. I hunted in them for over a week in BC this fall, without washing them, just aired them at night, and they were still comfy, clean-smelling, and WARM at the end of my hunt. And if you get a hole in them you get a FREE new pair. I forget what the price was on them but not all that much, maybe fifteen bucks? As far as I am concerned, that is the best bargain in hunting equipment in Canada!

So flame away, but I sure as hell enjoyed my visit to their store, and I will surely go back again next year or whenever I am back that way again.

I whent down to the Vaughan Mills store last year and it was an awesome store like really cool. Im not talking about product or anything just the sotre itself was neat. There is giant aquariums and alittle creek with fish in it and Stuffed bears and live fishing takle demonstraions and all sorts of stuff. very neat. Me and my dad almost passed out when we check out the prices of things though. when we left the store i rember saying to my dad well that sucks, That store is just to cater to the wealthy. witch it is. you know the type im talking about, they drive the brand new Toyota Tundera or whatever, and have the $12 000 quad or 2 with every possible aftermarket thing available, have a closet full of the most expesive camo out there and they go hunting twice a year, and are always the biggest stuck up asses out in the bush or if you ever mention hunting they think they are davy crocket or something because they bought all this crap.

I don't care if you have money or whatever good for you if you want to spend it foolishly go for it. I know a guy whos whole hunting wardrobe cost him alittle over $50. He's got coats, boots, pants, hats etc etc yo uname it he gotz it. He got it all from Army surplus stores and Value Village and places like that. He got his gun (12ga) for $65 from the bargain hunter and it's not a bad looking/working gun. and He drives a Honda Big Red trike. Which he paid like $650 for and it runs like a charm.

well hello Chopperhead, looks like your handle is entirely appropriate. Can't spell, think that fifty bucks worth of clothes is a fabulous hunting ensemble, and a sixty-five dollar 12 gauge is the ultimate hunting gun.

For your information, pinhead, I do not own any kind of toys of the type you mention, and actually spend a lot of my time out in the woods and for that matter on the water, hunting and fishing. When I am out doing that (more than twice a year), I reckon that most of the folks I meet do not think I am a "big stuck-up ass", whatever that might be.

Along the way I do spend money on clothing and equipment, as do most hunters and anglers. If your only exposure to outdoor gear is the Sally Ann Thrift Shop, there is no shame at all in that, nor is there any shame in needing to be careful in your purchases because money is tight. But don't chuck #### at people who spend THEIR MONEY on whatever the hell they please. (HINT: if you want to live in a Communist country, I hear you can move to China right now, and you can be a peasant to your heart's content. But Canada is a capitalist democracy and last time I looked our citizens are free to spend the money they earned by the sweat of their brow however they want to do so.)

Since you have difficulty with the basics of spelling, you probably have some troubles reading as well. So go back to my post, and read it slowly, mouthing out the big words, and learn that you need to be an informed consumer. Same as everywhere. If you want to pay $3.19 for a can of Tuna at your local supermarket, instead of 49 cents at a discount grocer, fill your boots.

Does Value Village sell .22 cal premium bullets for less than $12.99 per hundred? Are the socks at Billy Bob's Army Surplus and Tatoo Parlour guaranteed for life?

Go back under your bridge.

What? ya I cant spell, good for you for noticing im very happy that you let me know that. why do you think i was talking to you? if you dont actually own a bunch of the crap that I was talking about and go out hunting alot then why would you think I was reffeing to you? and I don't "have" to buy stuff from the Surplus store or whatever i just choose to cause i dont see the point in spending $200 for a camo jacket when I can get one just as good or better for $80? But I was not even talking about that. whats with the name calling and what not man? sorry but I really dont get why your mad at me or think Im mouthing off to you or...... im just confused by your post in general.
I think you misunderstood my post.

The Bass Pro store has been the number one store in all of North America since it's opening!!!!!! Cabela's is coming to Montreal for sure and possibly Barrie as a mail order company in Barrie. Bass Pro is scheduled to open in Alberta either Calgary or Edmonton I know they were talking West ED Mall but it has since moved. I am in a meeting with them tommorrow and will see what I can find out.

the pipe they have driven over the rifles at the counter make me feel like in a comunist country.
So I can buy the darn thing but it needs to be locked more than the money @ my bank ?
Not to say that them coming here is not good. It definately is.
I just prefer Cabela's.

And I spend a ton of money buying stuff I like.
Necesar - useful - or just plain cool. Not a rich man, but I take this hobby of mine rather serious. The only reason I want to have more money is so I can buy more stuff and spend more time hunting.

Here is the difference between the people who hunt and those who live to hunt.

No need ot get sour.
