I tried to narrow it down to these. Yes I know I omitted the KAC Triple Tap, that is for a reason.( Don't have the bones to buy one.)Can only be jealous of my friend.

Let me know why you use it and in what situations.

Finally, where to pick one up.

Thanks

If in the end you decide on the PWS FSC 556 I would consider the Dlask brake. I have it on my M4 and it's a "copy" of the PWS. Some shooters agree that at the very least it's just as good if not better due to slighter longer prongs on the end. The shooter that recommended it to me did a comparison with the PWS. He won the Borden CQB earlier this year with it on his M4....

I had the Battlecomp and now I use the Surefire brake. Instead of getting muzzle flip, I get muzzle shift to the right, mostly due to bullet torque. The Battlecomp is a little bit more quiet and it reduce muzzle flash a lot compared to the Surefire brake. The Surefire brake creates crazy amount of flash and concussion.

I tried the PWS on another M4. I get a little bit of muzzle flip but zero muzzle shift. Same concussion as the Surefire without the muzzle flash.

wtf is bullet torque?

The projectile is being forced to rotate in the barrel. The bullet doesn't want to turn, but because it has the least mass it is forced to rotate against the rifling, instead of the heavier rifle rotating around the bullet.

Torque is a measure of rotational force.

'muzzle rise' is a bit of a trick question, as AR-15 type rifles always recoil directly backwards (when properly held). The only reason the muzzle rises is due to body mechanics.

That being said, I own a Phantom 5C2 (and many, many other brakes), and there are definitely better options. They may be twice the price, but to me another $30-50 is a worthwhile investment in what I consider one of the most important pieces of a rifle.

The PWS FSC556 ($120)/Dlask copy ($65) are very good brakes, and I do not hesitate to recommend them as a very good general purpose muzzle device.. The KAC TT is also very good, and better than the FSC556 for side concussion, but also 5x the price. Not 5x better, but then again it depends on what you're looking for.

I only played with the Brakeout, never had a chance to shoot it myself.

Look here RCan... A muzzle Brake review... With 4 shooting tests between those options:

- Bare muzzle - we used this as a baseline
- A2 birdcage - flash suppressor - $5
- YHM Phantom 5C2 - compensator - $30
- PWS FSC556 - comp/flash suppressor - $90

From your experience CarbineOne, in what the fsc556 is better than the Phantom 5C2???

Thank You!

The Phantom 5C2 provides little if ANY recoil reduction. In terms of reducing muzzle rise, it works about as good as the A2 flash hider... meaning it does virtually nothing (closed 6 'o clock port... redirects a *little* of the gas upwards). It is an excellent flash hider, I would say on par with the FSC556 if not a little better.

The Phantom 5M1 is a very good muzzle brake for $30, but it still does not perform as well as the SEI, the FSC556, or any competition muzzle brake. But it IS $30. As a very good upgrade to the 5M1, I'd recommend spending the extra $35 and getting the Dlask clone of the FSC556.

Good video, nice to see some direct comparison. I'm an AR newbie and trying to wade through the different options for a muzzle device to aid in CQB shooting.

One question I gotta ask all is why the fuss about flash hiding? As a civilian shooting of a restricted rifle, I can't see when I am going to be shooting in low light conditions so the flash should no be an issue. Hell, one of my deer rifles is a 20 inch 308 with nothing on the end of the barrel. Muzzle flash has never been a consideration.

Am I missing something here?

?????????????

Watching those videos, looks like to me the Comp that gives the MOST Recoil Reduction IS the YHM Phantom. It is plain as day
The guy testing even says :
# The A2 seemed to have a harsher recoil impulse than when it had no muzzle device at all.
# The YHM made a noticeable difference in felt muzzle rise verses the A2. Reviewing the video confirms that I shot much flatter with it.

It is not cool to spend $30.

Everything bolted onto your Rifle has to be at least a $100 or you are not a true Operator
