Inspired by the success of our other poll thread, here is a new one...

Everyone needs to be able to reach out and touch something... and these two are the king of calibres when it comes to that.

Question is, which one would you take and why?

Barrett MRAD in .338 Lapua Magnum...

Or a Barrett .50?

Or of course, my favourite option... BOTH?!

This is not the end you want to be looking down...

I use the Barret 98B professionally and absolutely love this platform.

The problem with this poll however has less to do with price, accuracy, availability, weight, ballistics or even appearance.

.50 BMG is prohibited from being fired on Ontario Ranges; and I'm not sure how much longer or current status of being allowed in other Provinces the round is. It's just too "scary" for the general population. The primary reason any current buyer who is saving his pennies to have a LONG distance super Queen should choose .338 is because more fields still allow that round ((however that said, some ranges have banned it; Connought and Farnham military ranges both only allow Military Personnel use these calibers on their range, as I'm told when at these ranges)).

The guy that has the money to own Safe Queen's is going to buy both and not care about the ballistic comparison of the two either. End of day buy what you WANT and CAN shoot.

PS place a 3x or 4x magnifier behind that Holo and you have a GREAT station defence platform that allows you to deal with armored infantry or light armored vehicles. It also gives you the ability to punch through cover points to hit targets that try to use cover on approach. Or to deal with those peske Meese that operate like some sort of Splinter Cell spy.

The .338 Lapua because no matter how great the modern advancements in the 50BMG has been, I personally feel the 50BMG is still an Anti-material rifle; while the .338 Lapua is a modern round designed for long range small soft target engagement.

But that's my opinion only...

.50 BMG is prohibited from being fired on Ontario Ranges

False.

Non restricted can be shot on crown land.

Restricted can be shot at EESA and Lower Trent and possibly other ranges.

You can shoot the .50 at EOSC as much as you like and that's not about to change anytime soon,,,

The fifty

People who think that the fifty is scary should reall know what they are talking about!!!!! Take in consideration that there are other calibers that are smaller and will do the same 6.5...6.5x284 ... And the list go on....what is scary is people who talk and don't know a thing what they are talking about .......yes the .50 is a big cartridge ... And it makes a big boom ...... If you don't have the b¥Lls to shoot it .... Don't bad talk it .... Cause I lknow lots of people who want to shot one....A SCAREY round .....b.s

I said both, but the 50BMG is simply a bigger 30-06, which is the perfect cartridge:stirthepot2:
