Every so often I go through the safe and clean and oil the stuff I don't shoot or am not allowed to shoot. I really should get a Garand to round the set out.

Top to bottom:

SVT-40 - A Finn capture that was butchered by Globe Firearms and cosmetically restored with a new barrel extension. It's a real shame as it's SA stamped and matching.
SAFN - Egyptian contract in 8x57mm Mauser.
Norinco M14 - Nothing special to see here.
FAL - FN built, Israeli contract.
G3A3 - Interestingly, built by Enfield.

The G3's bolt carrier group. You can see the rollers (retracted, behind the bolt face) that make the roller-locked, delayed blowback operating system work.

Where's the Thompson?

A Thompson wouldn't be anything remotely like a battle rifle, now would it.

That's cool, Stevo!:)

I wish I'd kept the AK-47 I had, just so I'd have grandfather status and be able to snap up some of the mint prohib's I've seen going at bargain basement prices.:(

Thanks.

"Bargain basement prices"? I'd love to save all the 12(3)s I could but the damn things are going up in price. :(

A few years ago, I saw an FN going for about $400 in the EE and a Chinese AK for about $250. Both were mint.

That unexplained thunderclap you might have heard was me kicking myself.:(

I don't know what the prices are now though. I imagine they are increasing like everything else.

We're probably talking about 2 different classes. There's a lot more cheap 12(5)s than 12(3)s in the country.

I live in the ass end of nowhere so I can only judge prices over the net and the EE. I'd love to buy a 12(3) RPD I saw advertised, but who'd pay $4k for a gun you can't shoot?

I don't know the different classes, is 12(3) F/A?

I think I would have been 12(6) if I'd kept that AK.

Yeah, $4K is a lot of money for a safe queen. Especially if you can't even pass it on to a relative in your will.

I'd like to start a museum just to preserve the firearms that would otherwise be destroyed.

I would like very much to come and do dirty naughty things to your G3.

The two rifles I've wanted most my whole life, the G3 and the HK53.

Who did Enfield make the G3s for ? IIRC it was for a ME country, maybe Lebanon or Iran?

BTW, Stevo...Nice!

They made them for anyone who would buy them. Britain and France both setup to manufacture the G3 strictly for export, with zero intention of ever using them internally.

In practice, most of the Brit rifles went to current and former British colonies in Africa, and the French sold a lot of their production to Lebanon.

Avroe, I have never paid attention to Iranian guns in general, I just was struck by how unusual it was to see an Iranian G3, so the memory stuck with me.
