Battledyne arrive, quick review.

Ok...here it is in color. For anyone considering using a Battledyne with a Marauder/Nomad kit.

You will see in the following photos that the Battledyne mag is wider than the Nomad mag.

It "could" be modified by either cutting a slot in the front of the mag well on the Nomad.

Or...removing some material off the front of the Battledyne mag.

I am a little reluctant to try it for fear that I might "Bubba" either one.

If anyone comes up with an effective solution please post it. I would love to see the Battledyne mags work in this kit.

Thanks for posting the pictures, I heard you had to modify them. I have a dremel and don't have any problem making the modification, but would it be easier to modify the magwell or the magazine? I would preferably modify the magazine, since I wouldn't be using these mags for any other rifle.

Ok...I rough measured the mod on both the mag and the mag well. You can see in the photos the pencil marks where you would have to remove material.

Which mod you make will depend on your preference. Any mod on the mag will be hidden in the mag well on the Nomad kit, but it would be visible on any other application.

Spare the mag and mod the kit...? If you did it right I don't think you would change the look of the kit at all.

I am not sure what to try. The whirring sound of the Dremel is making me as nervous as lying in a dentist chair.

I would mod the Marauder kit for sure, seems like such a small piece of plastic that needs to be removed in comparison to cutting up new magazine, plus it might make the mag sit tighter too

With great fear and trembling I decided to take the plunge. (I was going to say "bite the bullet" but I thought that would be way too cheezy)

I decided to try to mod the Nomad kit to fit the Battledyne mag.

You can see in a previous post how I marked out the front of the Nomad mag well.

I got out a fine tooth coping saw, a small file and my trusty Dremel tool.

And here is how it came out...

As you can see in the fifth photo the cut out is not exactly centered. I could have tried to center it better but that is actually how the mag aligned so I decided to stick with what the mag wanted to do.

I tapered the cut out both to limit the amount of cutout that would be visible but also to accommodate the taper of the mag.

I think it came out alright. Mag locks into place on the pins and cycles fine manually.

Next is a live fire test.

Great job!! Thanks for the info, i dont have enough time to mess with everything anymore, i think it turned out great! Dave.

Keep the reviews coming, we have shipped a lot out so far, give us your opinions!

Sorry to say I'm not having a good experience thus far. :(

I've received my 4 mags... aesthetically they are wonderful and wobble is not noticeably more than my butler creeks (negligible) but functionally... not so much for me.

I've tried cycling them through manually to check functioning. Barrel is a Green Mountain 19" heavy taper.

So far between 50% and 90% of the time (depending on mag) the bolt doesn't close sufficiently to chamber the round properly. The nose of the round goes into the chamber but stops short of going all the way in. Sometimes I can manually advance the bolt and continue to chamber, sometimes it's a no go. Either way, I'm noticing quite a few rounds coming out with quite a scuff on the bullet. This is both with Win555 and CCI SV.

My BX-1 and Steel Lip BCs cycle just fine, but I've opened 3 of the 4 and none so far will even load the 1st round safely into the chamber.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I am finding the same thing. I got two mags. One cycles fine in all three of my 1022's.

The other one won't chamber to save it's life in any of my guns.

It is like the feed lips are out of alignment or something.

Every round gets it's nose jammed into the side of the chamber.

One mag is 100% fine. The other is 100% fail.

I hope the warranty is good on these things.

Going to give them a try at the range this weekend. I'll report back, and maybe next week provide some better images and video.
