Bausch and Lomb 10x Tactical MilDot

I am a big fan of the Super Sniper. I have three of them, to 16x's and a 10x. I got mine a bunch of years ago when you still could order them out of the US. To be honest, I'd still like another 16x SS. The trick to the SS O-ring'd turrets is to remove them once a year and grease up the O-rings, otherwise they do get a bit stiff.

I also have a brand new B&L 3200 10x mil dot scope but it has been sitting unused in my safe. It has never even been on a rifle but for the price I couldn't pass it up. :)

Here is the 10x SS on my 221 Fireball varminter.

Handsome rifle!, don't see all that many in fireball:cool:. With a barrel that fat, .. and a break, you can likely follow trace and see impact too?:D. Care to comment?.

Lubing the turret 'O' rings helped mine too, but not really needing the deep sea waterproof-ness, ... I replaced the stock ones with the next thinner gauge 'o' ring, for a noticable improvement in tactile feedback. The B&L turrets really shine, ... the SS's track just as well, but don't feel/sound as sharp.

Wish I could find a side parallax 16X SS for the H.B. .308. :sniper:

Apologies to OP Gootch, for the thread drift ..... however your scope is absolute unobtanium ... seen only one F.S. in decades, and he wanted $1,200. You are a lucky man. :cheers:

Personally I like the 16x better than the 10x. The SS 20x was the one with the wonky optics. A friend had one a bunch of years back and I def didn't like that one.

We did a side by side comparison in the field of a Leupold 5.5-20x and the SS 16X and everyone present liked the SS better. The SS is an excellent scope. For the price it is a fantastic scope.

I am still getting used to its lazer beam like trajectory but so far it has been fun. We shoot a lot of gophers and always have problems with barrel over heating. The Fireball only burns 18gr of powder and so doesn't heat up nearly as fast as bigger cases.
 
Nice. Ok I am impressed. The SS does look good and it is a formidable scope. Having had the pleasure of looking through both the B&L and the SS I would agree I can learn to love both. I also had my hands on a variable B&L 24x and it is probably the same experience as with the SS 16x. Eye relief, focus and parallax adjustments are tricky in those far reaching scopes.

Nothing like a clear fixed power scope to get those snappy shots at impressive ranges.

Seeing the two scopes now side by side, I do notice the big fat narly knobs on the B&L vs the flatter (almost polished looking) knobs on the SS.

Trevor60, very observant. You are correct. The B&L came with round mildots and I shoot the scenars at 2850. My 5 round group fluctuates mebby 20 fps and the true zero of the rifle is 325 yrds I love it when guys pay attention. My BR2s are slightly flattened and I consider the load slightly hot.

But we are getting off topic. Now that we have army dots and a true zero, what would be the longest realistic shot looking through this scope. My guess is anything over 800 is going to be a bit of a guess, with the fat crosshairs and all. However, a mansized target at 1000 is still viable. Assuming still supersonic at 1100 it would be a stretch to dial in the scope to that range without base tilt.

Any bites?

Far from "buttering you up", I will try to find the time to shoot your 14 lb. pig to a real world answer for that hypothetical question. Leave it, and copious ammo, with me.

Those B&L crosshairs are a tad blunt, eh?.
 
I found some liteture and need to correct myself.

According to the manual. "Each dot on the Elite 4000 Tactical scope is 3.5 m.o.a from the adjacent dot", NOT the usual 3.6.

The stadia lines are .250 thick which equates to 1/4 min so at 1000 yrds the stadia line covers 2.5" might be a bit thick for F class shooting. However for precision shooting or ringing man size iron you are good to go. This is the scope I use for the ORA precisions matches, and we reach out to hit fig. 11 targets (18x44) out to 800 yards.

If I had money i would by another and have it converted to 6x for hunting these are excellent scopes, on par with S&B and NF optics but do not have the latest and greatest mil dot designed recticle.
