bayonet for AR

can I buy a bayonet for my Ar15 new? and from where??

Chasing zombies are we:D

Just check around the eqpt exc and some pop up every now and then.

The C7 nella bayonets are out of the system, so you can find a nice one now and again. Or go hog wild and buy an Eickhorn - bayonet 2000, same as the new CF issue.

The US bayo is the M7(thanks for correctingTstar) or at least the one I have is. It will fit over the bird cage and maybe the 3prong but not over some newer flash hiders ie on Stags. Also short barrels don't work either

They use the M9 too. Mine has a cool sheath with built wire cutters and a sharpening stone.

This is probably a dumb question but... it shouldn't matter what length barrel you have to attach a bayo right? The length from the lug to the flash hider should be the same on any rifle?
I have a 16 inch RRA so I don't foresee a problem if I can find a bayo for real cheap one day.

Yes, Here is the bayo I have for my 14.5.

Bayo will only fit a 16" barrel if it is stocked for midlength. Will not fit the more common form of AR around these days the M4 short stock on a 16" barrel. Also some A2 birdcage muzzels on commercial AR's are not to milspec diameters so you may not get the bayo ring over it.

If you own a short barreled AR with a lug, you can install a bayo if you add one of those 4.5", or 5.5" long flash hiders. Real macoys are better known as moderators.

Similar to the following 4.5" moderator:

^very nice, I always wanted to find an xm moderator. In blood diamond they had colt commandos with moderators with red dots, looked just awesome.
The moderator helps reduce muzzle noise by quite a bit, and I know why it was used on all the shorties because with just a flash hider they are extremley loud.

Anywhere to buy a flash hider that looks just like a moderator but doesn't reduce noise, thus legal in canada?

The US bayo is the M8A1 or at least the one I have is. It will fit over the bird cage and maybe the 3prong but not over some newer flash hiders ie on Stags. Also short barrels don't work either

is the m8 stamped on the bayonet or the shelter?- you need to look at the blade, typically right at the ring mount- the m7 is the old issue m16 mount whereas the the m9 field knife is the new issue- also some models of the carbine have the lug so far back that even though they have the lug, there's no point in mounting the bayonet as it does not exceed the length of the barrel- i've seen that one
if the m8 is on the shelter, it's the standard shelter for the m5/6/7 series - i have either m8 or m8a1 on both my m6s ( one of which actually saw service) and my m7-

m8a1 is the scabbard for the m6 (m14) m7 (m16) bayonets.

actually, the line gets really blurry- the m8 was supposed to have a belt loop only, and fits m4,(carbine) m5 (garand)m6(m14) and m7(m16) all post war- however, later versions have BOTH THE WIRE and the belt loop ( which was supposed to be the difference)- i'm looking at one right now and it's clearly marked m8- and it's accompanying bayonet was an m6= i also have a old battle marked m6 and it's accompanying bayonet is an m8a1- and the m7's is a m8- conclusion- these things were mixed and matched all over the place- moreover there is NO REASON for a shelter to ever break, whereas the bayont itself can break or be lost for any number of reasons- both 1 of my m6's and m7s were new in wrap and box- and they had m8 shelters- with wires

Standard bayonet won't fit. When the US went to the CAR-15 with a 16" barrel they had Eickhorn of Germany build special bayonet with factory extension so it will fit. This is the rarest of all the Colt bayonets. This is what it looks like on a 6920.
