Bayonet ID

It's an S1898 a/A by the look of it (unless there is a flash guard, in which case it is an n/A. Hard to tell from the photo, but either variant should be 25.75" long with a 20.5" blade.

Looks like an S1898 but the scabbard looks like it isn from a dress bayonet of some sort. What has the seller listed it as?

My friends father passed away and he collected everything. My buddy is trying to sort out his stuff. Unbelievable amount of interesting stuff from pistols HJ knives and memorabilia

The trouble is no one alive knows what he has or if it’s real or fake

I don't think it has the right length for it, but could it be an 1871/98? An 1871 modified to mount to the 1898 rifle?

Old Smithy's site has a few pictures of one, but no measurements.

This is part of the horde that’s now seeing daylight. I got in for that but not that price! Also a few exotic clips.
Hopefully buddy brings the blade down and I can get more detailed pics. I’m sure there will be lots of interesting things to look at. Thanks.
Cheers

Reliable in Vancouver had a handful of, I think, 32 round boxes of 1942 Canadian production .303, for $50/box. Grabbed one, just to put in the safe with no intention of opening or shooting it.

It’s almost too historic (and expensive )to use,I agree. But I’ll be using it. Just got a bolt for the no5 and the no 4 is ready to go all be it in a sportered stock and I haven’t shot either!
