Sorry if this is a stupid question but google couldn't answer this one for me.

Can you put a bayonet on a sporterized enfield? If so, are they specific to mk and #? I have a no 5 mk 1 and don't have a bayonet to try and attach so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes they are model specific. And it might work on a sporterized No 5 if the flash hider and bayonet lug are still intact. Same for the No 4. Also, it's impossible to properly fit a bayonet to a sporterized No 1.

For detail about the different type of bayonet, here's a link.

It depends on how sporterized it is. The No.5 needs the whole flash hider with bayonet lug to attach its bayonet. Many No.4 rifles have the barrel shortened so the bayonet lugs are gone when converted, but some still have the whole barrel so they can still attach a bayonet. A No.1's bayonet attachment is dependent on the full stock with nosecap.

Just by chance I was onto this same thread.. I'm looking for 'said bayonet' for my Dads No.5 MK1... any suggestions, so far very hard to find ?

You can get the RFI (Indian) reproduction bayonets for "cheap" but a real No5 bayonet will cost about as much as a No4 Mk1 or No7 Mk1/L these days ($300 or so...).
