Based on those two pictures, I can tell you with certainty that it is in fact a bear.

No exposed claws, no shoulder hump and the fact that a respected member and former guide says its a colour phased Black bear, Im joining of that opinion as well. Funny how people can live with wildlife all around them and be fine until they see a picture of one?? I dont really follow

What if it identifies as a grizzly though? Anyone think of that.

What part dont you understand???? No big hump on the front shoulder. No exposed claws on the paw rested on the tree. The wrong shaped head. Anything else. Just caught on, my bad sorry thats funny. Really funny now OOOoops

We did have a grizzly here a couple of years ago they're not common here. And im not too worried about wildlife lol

Black bear (colour phase), as previously stated.
Shape of head and shoulders are the main factors to look at here.

Looks like a colour phase black bear to me but it may identify as a Grizzly. It's really up to the bear to decide.

pointy snout is not a sign to say it is not a grizzly.
