BC black bears question

Missed last fall season due to long unexpected trip to visit very ill mother, but from what I heard there was much less bear sightings east of GVRD. I am thinking whether I should try to get a spring bear on the Vancouver island, but I never hunted there and I never did it in the spring. Is it better to go north past Campbell river from Nanaimo or southwest towards Cowichan Lake (I probably won't have much time, maybe 2 days the most). I am not asking for precise location, just for an idea (maybe PM me). Also when do you, friends, think is the good time to go?
Any advise is greatly appreciated!
 
There are bears to be seen between Boston Bar and Merritt.
There are Bears to be seen on the South Coast Vancouver from Lk Cowichan to Port Renfrew to Bamfield and points between.
Two days is a pretty tight timeline for VI or the interior.
With the crazy weather we are having here on the coast the bears should be getting restless.

There are some really big black bears in the northern 3rd of Vancouver island. Two days is really not enough time if driving either to northern Vancouver island or the Mainland. Know anyone that has a float/bush plane?
 
I live in VI, 2 days is the minimum for my trip. unless you know the sweet spots, you better give one or two more days for trolling the logging roads.

from late April till June, every day is a good day.
 
Go around Campbell River and I think the best time is around may long weekend. I think if you had 2 days to hunt there that you would get it done at that time.

i didnt find them to be less spooky in spring, they run like heck the minute the truck slows down, dont even give u a chance to open door and get out

I got my last bear on a really hot day in May. It was late in the afternoon and the bear was down at the bottom of a valley just off the logging road munching on some mossy greens in the shade about 50yds from a river. He was pretty lazy still and I he didn't spook at all. Just stood there and wondered what I was up to. I had time to get into a good shooting position rather than make a snap shot. He was between 50-70yds from me.

I keep hearing over and over from lots of people that there are a ton of large Black bears up island in the vacinity of Sayward/Woss and further north to the tip of the Island.

My last was in the Cowichan Lake area.
 
So, ___________ are there any bears in your neck of the woods?
Teasin of course, but two days is not enough time to head to the mid-island and take home a punkinhead, but I think the Op's ears might be perking up a little and making for more time.

Lucky you guys. On this coast it's -36 and windy as hell. Nothing much stirring around here. I can't even imagine getting out there to go 50 miles to try to find caribou. Not in this crap.
 
Are you on the island? Reason I ask is if your not, save yourself the $$$ you would spend on the mini cruise and just head up to Squamish, Boston bar, or Merritt...heck even Harrison. I saw more bear sign up the coquihala than I wanted to while deer hunting last sept.
 
.284 posted earlier , and now that i think of it ... if you did just drive up and down Duncan Bay main along the highway for a couple days in Campbell River. It would just happen there too. Be 5 minutes from a hotel or a camp ground every morning lol.
