BC CQB Match April 5 registration now open!

Came out for my First competition ever, Had a great time! Thanks to all the organizers and the sponsors; looking forward to the next shoot! Hopefully I wont toss magazines forward of the firing line on the next one...

So you new guys that have never shot a competition before, did you find that it was difficult to keep up or hard to understand or intimidating at all? Just curious as to how it seemed to you?

The COF instructions for a first timer was a little difficult to understand visually. but once the instructions were re-explained verbally it made things very clear. This was a great help!

Otherwise, it was a phenomenal event!

Yes to all of the above! But not overwhelming by any means. I should have studied the course of fire more beforehand. If the bullhorn were twice as loud that'd be awesome, i might invest in some muffs with the built-in mics. Had a great time and scored a fair way up from the bottom despite sone missed points (mag malfunction and small safety operator error).

The more experienced guys on the relay helped me out a lot.

It wasn't too intimidating but likewise I wish I'd read the course overview beforehand I couldn't find it on the Facebook page. I imagine that sort of thing would be remedied when the website is up and running. Besides that it was great hearing it directly before the serial and having an opportunity to clarify anything you didn't understand so it certainly worked out in the end.

it wasn't difficult at all it was easy to understand there was always your safety partner helping out when ever i needed it . being under stress ( having a time limit ) was a lot of fun theres lots i can practice on before the next one this beats bench shooting any day of the week went real smooth to .

I think a summary after the long explication would help. Ie: "5 & 5, flag, run, then 3 & 3." Etc.
That is what the monkey brain is going to understand.
Kind of like how your fine motor skills suffer under stress.
That's how things are explained by your safety if you didn't quite catch it the first time.

First time out. Definitely enjoyed it! loved the pace. Just had to make sure to listen to and focus on the instructions which seemed to be clear and concise to me.

Some photos - I didn't really get a chance to photograph much, as I was shooting and/or safety-ing. Full and very short set of photos over here.

Mike and his SR 1911 Part 2:

This was my second outing and it was even better than the first. It seems like once shooting starts there is virtually no down time. Just enough time to score/mark and reload and them you're back on the line which is great. The day flies by. The only part that felt like it was dragging on was lunch. I found the verbal instructions to be very clear and consice. The written are a little harder to understand the first time out, but the second time were no problem. Everyone is helpful so it shouldn't be a big issue. Thanks guys, the preorganizing/score sheets/targets help tremendously in how smoothly the day goes for the new and seasoned shooters.

On a side note, are you going to post the final cumulative scores here?

I agree that bullhorn is a piece of sheit lol. We are working on getting a PA system that will be better!
