Fellow nutters,

Any1 have a Butler Creek folding stock that can measure the minimum barrel length required to maintain 26" OAL? I'm guessing 18.5", but I'm hoping to get away with 16". Any1 know for certain? And I'm sure the stock needs to be folded before measuring (well I know, just being polite =D), thanks CGN.

I have a 16" dlask on my folder and if i didnt have a flash hider tack welded in place it wouldnt quite make the 26" measurement . Ill measure it up this evening if you need exact measurement

Thanks blasty, an exact measurement would be nice when you have some time. Maybe 18" (without welded brake) still isn't enough. Would hate to order a GM up and be mm short .

On a side note, how do you like your BC folder? Does it lock up nice and tight?

I belive "a flash hider tack welded in place" would not be legal over all lenght .Over all lenght would end at the rifleing just wanted to let you know that before some one gives you a really bad day.

I'm pretty sure that as long as the brake is permanently affixed to the barrel, it does count towards the OAL. Interested to know where you got this information from, and if you could site the source. Maybe you're right, but I don't think so. Same thing with butt pads/extensions. If they're permanently affixed (such as with a screw), they should also qualify for OAL.

Thanks for the help guys.

o'rly? where did you hear that from?

He is likely confusing the cfo decision about barrel length for a semi auto centre fire like the m1 carbine where an unrifled barrel extention or flashhider even welded on isn't considered acceptable to get the barrel to 18 1/2 inches needed for nonrestricted. It's why there are still people looking for those half inch longer replacement barrels for their restricted m1's.
It's just one of the first things the cfo's started on their quest for power years ago.
For overall length on a rimfire just a screwed on flashhider or thicker recoil pad would work since your no longer dealing with the barrel length just overall length. On a side note the Co's here had a wooden box that they would try to fit your shortened shotgun into.Too long then they gave it back to you.

Screwed on, and welded. No?

Well i think thats got to be a touchey subject most say that a muzzle break dose not count as over all length. If you had a handgun and welded a somthing on the end it would not count, be it a muzzle break or just some round steel you can only go from the rifling to the back of the chamber unless its revolver. If you cant use a welded muzzel break on a rifle to make up the end of the lengthwhy would it count on a rimfire. Its been i while since i read it but it said on the goverments sight that you cant count a muzzle break for over all legnth dosent say any thing about welded or not. Thats why i would not try that my self if some one inturpid the law as i did you would still have a restricted not clasified by the gov and wouldnt like to know how far they would take that with a law abiding citizen. If you were a criminal you would probably be ok and they would just let you go just jokes ok.

"j"man, no. Just screwed on is enough. Overall length is just that, it has nothing to do with the length of the bbl.

Edited to add - A welded brake does not satisfy bbl length requirements.

what if the stock is longer than the barrel. I'm assuming the barrel has no impact on the OA length just the actual length of the rifle. So even an extended fore-end / rail system should add to the OA length without even needing a flash hider or something to add to the barrel. Or going to home depot and screwing in something that adds length to the butt end. It’s confusing what they’d accept or not

I had to sell my 16" barrel for an 18.5" one for my BC folder set up.

I suggested contacting the RCMP for their answer.
