bc forest service use of herbicide

Thank you for your perspective and information on this subject, and as much as what I will say next may be taken as a personal attack, I ask that you do not take it as such.

I have put in bold the two parts that stick out to me as the most pertinent, as they illustrate perfectly the two sides of this. A crop to get to market or an intact ecosystem that can sustain a healthy animal population, that is what it comes down to.

I get it that you and many others have families to feed but at what cost?

No offense taken, I understand the sensitive nature of the subject.

Like I said, it comes down to meeting legal requirements set by government in the most efficient and cost effective manner, which results in compromises between economics, effectiveness, and production requirements, while trying to limit impacts on the ecosystem. It isn't always perfect, but sometimes broadcast herbicide is the best option for managing vegetation on a given site.

As a point of note, I personally have never used aerial herbicide myself, but have seen it used, but that is mostly a function of the areas I have worked in and my employment circumstances, that I have not used it. I had a block that it would have been the best option that I treated a couple years ago, but ended up having to manually brush due to timelines and inability to access aerial herbicide in the circumstance, but at 5x the cost and a very dangerous job for the crew doing the work.
