BC Junior Hunter regulations

I picked up a BC Junior Hunter card for my Nephew and now i'm confused about addidtional tags and stuff. The guy who sold them to me has no idea(a rural grocery store clerk).
Is he good to hunt the same species that i have tags for? Or are there special dates for juniors to be hunting? Or do i have to get additional tags?
I'm reading the regs as i type this so maybe a BC Dad can give me the lowdown. All i can find is that its illegal to give a 10 year a gun to blast things with..he's 13. I put him on his CORE(he passsed) and im taking him this weekend for birds.

You have the regulations in front of you and I don't. Also, it's been a long time since I went through that, but I think first get him a licence, after he has passed the CORE program, with you signing for it, but he can't get tags on the junior licence, he goes with your tags. You can not get extra tags because of him.
That was the way I remembered it.

yes you must cut your tag for his kill if I remember it as well, he needs the core to obtain his own tags

Couple of things for clarification: Did you get him a "jumior Licence" or did he get his own licence with his own hunter number (result of having his core)?

If you got him a Junior Licence (the one you had to sign for) then he can hunt only on your tags. He shoots something- you cut a tag. He can not hunt the "Youth Seasons" as those are for youngsters who hold their own licences (ie: have their own hunter number).

If he has passed his CORE he can get his own hunter number and get his own licence and tags.

Since you got him a Junior Hunting Licence I suppose he does not have Hunter Number Card, so:

...A Junior Hunting Licence can only be issued to a parent or guardian on behalf of his/her child or ward who is 10 years of age or older and under the age of 14. The junior hunter need not have completed a hunter training program but must be accompanied and under the close personal supervision of an adult who carries the proper licences. Wildlife taken by the junior under this licence is included in the bag limit of the accompanying licensed adult. No species licences may be purchased with the junior licence. However, during a hunting season, a licensed junior hunter may accompany and hunt with an adult holding a valid Limited Entry Hunting
authorization and a valid species licence...

Ok, well answered.^ He's 13 and passed his CORE and has no hunter number. I did sign a consent form at the store with a little confusion. Ill get him a number tomorrow.

If he has a junior hunting license what ever he harvests has to come out of your bag limit. Youth aged 14 or older are entitled to their own hunting license and their own bag limit. If you look in the first few pages of the BC hunting synopsis under the Licensing section there is a fair bit of info on junior hunters.

This is wrong. If he has a Junior licence, he can hunt in the Youth season. You cannot, but must accompany him and have an available tag if he is successful.

Also, if a youth has passed his Core and has got his hunter number, he can have his own licence and tags at 10.

That is not what I understand from our regs.

This is about waterfowl hunt:

WATERFOWLER HERITAGE DAYS
4Waterfowler Heritage Days (WHDs) for the hunting of ducks and geese occur
province wide. Only young hunters at least 10 years of age and less than 18 years of age who have met all provincial requirements are permitted to hunt, and they must be accompanied by a licensed adult hunter. The adult hunter can accompany a maximum of 2 youth hunters. The adult hunter can guide and advise the young hunter but is not permitted to hunt. See individual regions for season dates. General open seasons in the affected regions may be reduced by 2 (or 1) days so that the overall number of hunting days for migratory game birds remains unchanged. Federal regulations have been amended to exempt young hunters from having to purchase the federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit when participating in WHDs. Provincial regulations have been amended to exempt young hunters from having to purchase the provincial hunting licence or the junior hunting licence when participating in WHDs. In addition, youth at least 10 years of age and less than 18 years of age are exempt from the requirement to complete hunter safety training (CORE) prior to participating in WHDs. NOTE: Youth who wish to hunt ducks and geese outside of designated WHDs or who wish to hunt for any other species of game, must purchase the appropriate licence and, if 14 years of age or older, must complete CORE.

A youth hunting ducks or geese during Waterfowler Heritage Days does not require a hunting licence, junior hunting licence or the Canada Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit. The Acknowledgement of Responsibility, signed by a parent or guardian, is still required.

For the other game, in addition to the requirements posted, there is clarification for "Youth Only Season":
Youth Only Season** => ** Season restricted to hunters under the age of 18.
And that is period.

Can you post the text of the regs that support your statement? I am asking because I do not understand your interpretation of the regs.

Junior hunters are not elligible for their own licence and tags.

Plus I asked a CO if my (then) Junior Hunters could hunt the Youth Season and he said no. That info goes back about 6 years so if it has changed it would be good to know.

The way I understand this is:
In the case of WHDs, there were few amendments to provincial and federal regulations:
1. "Federal regulations have been amended to exempt young hunters from having to purchase the federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit when participating in WHDs."
So, young hunters + WHD = NO need for Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit

2. "Provincial regulations have been amended to exempt young hunters from having to purchase the provincial hunting licence or the junior hunting licence when participating in WHDs."
So, young hunters + WHD = NO need for hunting licence (either provincial hunting licence or the junior hunting licence.)

3. "In addition, youth at least 10 years of age and less than 18 years of age are exempt from the requirement to complete hunter safety training (CORE) prior to participating in WHDs."
So, Youth between 10 and 18 years old + WHD = NO need for CORE

The note that follows clarifies that the above amendments are ONLY during WHD. And so:

NOTE: Youth who wish to hunt ducks and geese outside of designated WHDs or who wish to hunt for any other species of game, must purchase the appropriate licence and, if 14 years of age or older, must complete CORE.

Appropriate licence would be either Junior Hunting Licence or provincial hunting licence (provided the fact that he/she has CORE + hunter number)

From what I understand, Youth season means just this:

Youth Only Season** => ** Season restricted to hunters under the age of 18.

If you are older than 18 you are out of season!
