The other day while saving my poor 94 from a total lock up from some stupid snap caps, my gunsmith noticed that the cartridge lifter that I replaced showed signs of being welded after being broken...looked like brass was used in the weld as well. :eek:

Nicely done for me not to notice right away, but some ballistol oil I used the night before had cleared away enough carbon to show the weld line off. :eek:

So methinks that rifle is staying home until I can replace that part.

It's now the Mosin vs P14. :D
 
P14 is long, heavy and unwieldy. The m44 is much lighter, a helluvalot shorter and slightly more potent to boot.

On the flip side, most m44's don't shoot well with the bayonet folded, and the sights on the p14 are much superior
