Just out of curiousity, why are you thinking you should have gone 15"? Importance of covering the gas block?

Cover that gas block. It's like using the fly on your pants. We already know what's in there, we don't need to see it.
I think anything over 12.5" will cover it the gas block and at 12.5 you can still get a tool in to adjust

I'm figuring you guys have all these details sorted out within 6-24 months from now (when I expect my BCL to show up!).
I own an AR, but it's a PWS piston gun so haven't done anything with it besides shoot it and clean it.
Trying to find a clamp-on titanium SLR gas block in Canada, but might just order the steel one as Brownells has it in stock.

better to go 12.5 inches and reduce weight
