I've had this rifle since Feb 2017, it's a low serial number. The rifle has 2 cases of hurtenburger ( sorry about the spelling). I like the rifle, I really do but today I ran into a problem. I fired 4 types of ammo today at 100 meters the rifle shot like a shotgun. With military surplus it shot fine, shooting minutes of beer can with ease.
Today the best group was 4 inches with surplus, the worst group was the the hornady superperformance with a 9 inch group. I'm at a loss for words. I did not take pics due to sheer embarrassment. Has anyone else had this happen? The weather was clear with no wind and -10.
Im usually a good shot having shot this rifle to 600 meters on man size targets. The rifle up to now has been flawless. I'm now thinking about selling it. Any thoughts?
 
So you are getting SKS accuracy out of a 308win rifle that has all those unique features after ~1000 rds ?

I'd be contacting BCL about it.

Is anything loose on it ? Barrel ? Muzzle brake ? Optic and/or mount ?
What does the barrel look like ?

What was the weight of the bullet fired ? A friend has one and it seems to prefer 150gr bullet

If you are shooting ammo that was previously accurate and now accuracy is poor, then something happened. I would look at optics and mounts first.

Definitely this.

Also, superformance might be producing too much pressure for your semi; might not be a great candidate for accuracy testing without some way to meter gas flow.
 
Well since it's obviously defective I think you should sell it at a DEEP discount...

Don't sweat it yet!

There's a small list to go through, but it sounds like it shoots Hurt'N'Burger pretty well, and did today. If that's the first time you've shot Superformance I wouldn't be too alarmed. Perhaps it's like the anti-node, and Superformance hits it dead on. I can't recall if you hand load, but until you do some testing you can't really say if it's good or not. I had a scope fail last year and it went from about moa to about 3+ moa. I was getting really frustrated thinking it was the projectiles, then I swapped out the scope, scope was pooched.
 
If nothing changed except the group size, then as others have stated, I would immediately suspect the scope or mount, not the rifle.

The only way the rifle itself could change that much instantly is if the barrel nut were loose or the muzzle device were loose. Both are easy to check. If it's not those things, then check that your mount is still tightly attached. If so, then try another scope.
 
My rifle hates anything over 155. Most 150-155 loads are 2-3" at 100. The 180's I tried were 6-8".

As mentioned above, if it started shooting a previously good performer poorly, I'd check for loose bits.
 
All good suggestions here. Beside, could it be copper fouling?
1500 round count, if you clean only with CLP the copper keeps piling and filling the grooves.
