So the gun gods smiles shone down on me today.

By a feat of luck all of the parts I needed came in today to do my planned barrel swap for my BCL-102. I wanted it to be lighter, and most of the weight of any gun is in the barrel. So I ordered a Faxon 20" pencil barrel, a rifle length gas tube, and a 0.750" gas block, as well as the TNA BCL-102 barrel nut wrench.

Everything went as planned. With the A2 stock and light barrel it is easy to hold at ready for a long time. Really digging it. It will be much more handy to bump around with me when I go hiking and hunting. Plus I doubt I will lose any accuracy as these barrels have a good rep. Going to hit up the range on Sunday. Can't wait!

Nice. How much lighter is it? Which vise block is that?

I really should order that TNA wrench. Last barrel change I did on my 102 was with a pipe wrench and large Ukrainian socket wrench.

Hahahaha. It is a wheeler AR-10/AR-15 vise block, they are super handy as you can use it to clamp onto the pic rail if you have to if you are working on other rifles that arent in the AR class. http://www.bullseyelondon.com/wheeler-engineering-delta-series-upper-receiver-action-block-picatinny-rail-vise-block-ar-15-ar-10-lr-308-156888-6578.html

I'll change the handguard, probably to a MRA X1, but not any time soon. No $$$ around for that. That would lighten it almost another pound.

My scale at home sucks, I tried earlier and it was mostly all over, averaged to 8.2lbs with no optic or mag. I bet I would get her close to 7.5lbs (assuming my average is accurate) with the MRA handguard as it is 13oz lighter or so than the stock one. All I know is it comes up a lot easier and faster and feels way more light in the hand.

Looking forward to a range report! Thinking of dropping in a MRA pencil barrel in my Stag 10.

Not going to be doing accuracy testing with handloads or anything, at least not for a while. I am waaay too busy, so it will just be bulk norc/hirt ammo for the time being.

Faaaack
You're killing me lol
You know how light that ##### would be with an AR10A2 handguard and a simple carry handle iron sight :D

Are the 20" faxion barrels taper pin hole drilled or non drilled?

Ive been trying hard to talk myself out of going down the rabbit hole of a custom AR10A2 on a stag upper lower...
Seeing that ###y pencil barrel on there is not making it easy lol

Haha it would be awesome. No, I don't believe they are drilled for the front sight pin.

You could build a pretty cool rifle with a stag, since the delta ring assembly for DPMS pattern rifles is so easy to get. Someday....

Did a range trip today, everything went swimmingly. Was ringing the gongs at 500m without too much effort although it was very windy. Really have to say I am loving the light barrel. I cannot express how much better this rifle handles now. Just need to put a muzzle brake on to mitigate recoil a little bit :)
