BCL 102 MK7 Range Report

Here is an update from the range this morning. I loaded up some of the cheaper hornady 168 BTHP. They are about $20 a box cheaper per 100 so I wanted to give them a go. I also loaded up 3 seperate charges of the 150 grain hornady FMJ offering. My goal is to find a load for a few different bullets with the same type of powder. In this case, I'm using IMR8208 XBR.

The hornady 168 grain bullets performed well for their price. I simply matched my nosler 168 load I was happy with, so same powder charge and OAL. Velocities were within 15 fps between the 2 different bullets. The 150 FMJ also performed well at 100 yards. Far better than the 147 campros I tried earlier. I'm not giving up on the campro, in fact I will give them a similar load work up with the 8208.

The 200 yard groups were interesting. I initially had my magnetospeed Chrono on the gun for the first 2 groups at 200 yards. I was disappointed with what I saw based on my fairly good results at 100 yards. I then decided to pull of the crhono just to see if I could do better. You can see the point of impact shifted quite a bit, even though the elevation was set the same. However, the group's shrunk down a considerable amount. I haven't had this issue with my bolt guns having group size affected, so I will keep an eye moving forward.

The gun is continuing to function flawlessly. The brass is coming out quite unscathed. Case heads look nice. I'm in the market for a better stock as well as a trigger, just because I like a nice trigger and am eager to try a nice trigger in a semi. The stock trigger is quite manageable and I'm sure it will get better with more rounds.

I'm having the same ejection concerns, and it's eating up the ejection port. I'm thinking the ejector needs to be replaced like on the old 102s. Though I'm looking for someone who has done that and can confirm there was an improvement.

I'm also a leftie so occasionally I get a case to the face and it's not fun lol.

Thanks for the heads up. I went the MRA route on mine and paid a little extra for their Mil-Spec parts. I haven’t shot mine yet but the BCL stuff is the receivers and that’s it. Hope it pays off and good luck with yours. How many rounds total on your gun?

This picture is on the house :)

I would like to add this on a YouTube video from “the late Boy Scout “ on a Stag 10. They had similar issues and it was when his son or wife shot it and didn’t hold it tight enough and a unproper shooting stance that caused malfunctions. Maybe being a lefty is doing this too ?

Lol, that's actually the movie I modeled my username after. He's an inspiration to all us accountants.

I'm going to get the CNA ejector and spring from True North Arms and report back if it helps. What's the MRA route?

Also I doubt it's my stance as I've only shot the gun from a bench and I'm familiar 308win recoil; I've got 480 rounds or so through it.

Great movie..

Maple ridge armoury. They had custom builds available, with mostly their parts. I just wanted cheap as lite and as short as possible. It cost me a little more than a stock MK7 but I got what I wanted.

Have you shot it yet? I was looking at their kits originally but when trying to deal with them they were less than helpful. I'd be curious on the accuracy. Thanks.

Soon. Once they were sold out, they ignored me as well when I wanted more stuff. I have their pencil barrel on mine so I’m not expecting MOA accuracy but that was my intention with milsurp ammo too.

I'm actually thinking I should just try out a Toolcraft complete bolt assembly. I compared pictures of the ejector and they look identical so it's making me wonder if the heavily beveled surface on the BCL bolt vs. a regular beveled bolt is the main culprit.

I was looking at complete bolts at TNA as well. $167 isn't as bad as a full BCG.

Yeah I mean nothing wrong with the BCG, just the bolt might out a little funky. Plus if you go the two uppers route then there's really no need for two bcgs.

I think I'm gonna try the new bolt instead of new ejector - much less work too.
