BCL 102 questions for owners (for my own confusion)

Epoxy7 nailed it pretty good I’d say. Flyte1976 is looking for constructive advice such as myself. I ordered my FDE in Feb. of this year and am anxiously waiting for it’s arrival, but in the meantime I’ve put in countless hours researching & doing my due diligence to better understand this weapon and how it can be approved upon with doing my own QC with minimal expense & a little elbow grease. Seems like most of the ones calling it a POS haven’t done they’re own due diligence and qc. It’s a level entry weapon its not going to be perfect......

Well there goes this thread. It’s too bad. I really wanted to know how people were utalizing this rifle.

There are a few members that literally search out every bcl thread to $h1t all over them. Go to any thread that has bcl/nea mentioned and you will see the same people over and over again.

I hold no loyalty to any company, I buy what I want and that is within my budget. I bought a 102 as it was within my budget and wanted another NR rifle. Mine has been 100% reliable. Yes the machining could be nicer, would have been nice to have a dust cover that actually covered the ejection port, would have been nice to have it anodized before they were cerakoted, cerakote is not as nice as other rifles I have that came factory coated. None of these things effects reliability or how the rifle shoots so I stopped caring and just run it. If something wears out or breaks I'll either replace or warranty.
Anyways...rant over.

Your questions,

#1 I use mine for fun/target shooting. Basically goes to the range and bangs plates out to 250m. Puts smiles on anyone's face that shoots it. A test run is offered whenever somebody comes and asks me about it.

#2 Bushnell Elite Tactical 1-6.5x24. Mounted on an Aero Precision Cant.

My biggest complaints about my rifle are weight and stock trigger. Trigger has been addressed, trigger tech. Weight, getting rid of the handguard would make these rifles handle much better and that is exactly what I've read from others that have already done that. Should lose the front grip as well, I only use it as a hand stop.

@ Epoxy7, want to share the handload info on those sub MOA rounds you mentioned?...

Sure. Tried and true AR10/AR308 and M24 rounds. The earlier M118LR rounds which the current Federal Gold is based on were a bit hotter than the current military ammo and Federal Gold. With the 1:10 twist (Current Military precision rifles use a 1:11.25 twist) and 18.5" barrel (20-26" barrel length is the length that these rounds were designed around) you will need it to be a bit hotter. My go to round is 168 smk and 175 smk with 43.4 grains of varget. That being said I also use 44 grains of varget. Reload at your own risk, go up slowly etc. Check for pressure signs.

With the BCL 102 I would go to 44 varget. See if you can get away with 43.4. You might be able to. The stock clone round for Federal gold using varget is 43 grains. For brass I use Federal and Winchester, sometimes Lapua. CCI BR2 primers. The other powder choice is IMR 4064. IMR 4064 is what Federal uses for their Federal Gold ammo. A 168 Federal gold clone is about 43.5 of IMR 4064. You would need to go up a bit from that. Fairly close to varget. RL-15 is the third choice, however it's temperature sensitive. I don't use RL15.

Alternatively 167 Lapua off the shelf match ammo is likely going to be your off the rack solution. I have 60 rounds of it here that I will be testing out. I've had some excellent results from that ammo in AR308 rifles in the past.

The two sub 5 round groups I've seen posted here from two different BCL 102 owners have been the 44 varget and 168 smk or 168 Amax. I hope this helps.

Thx, this will definitely get me in the ball park. Can tweak from there on what rifle likes & group. Currently only reloading for custom .308 bolt rifle. Have no experience with semi auto. Appreciate the info.....
