BCL 102 scratching bullets

Sorry if this has been posted before. I was checking my spacing on some handloads I was going to start doing and I noticed that when I chamber a round in my new bcl102 its gouging the crap out of the bullets. When the round passes up the feed ramps the sides are very sharp and leave fairly significant scratches in the copper jacket. I cant help but feel that this would negatively affect the accuracy of the round. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've posted pics in an imgur link as i dont think i have picture rights on here.

Ps. They chamber without any noticeable difficulty.

Does it do that if you hand feed a cartridge into the chamber then close the bolt?
What does a piece of fired brass look like? Any scratches on the neck?

At first from your description I thought it was your barrel extension lugs were sharp and scratching the bullet as it comes backward and the ejector pushes the cartridge over and it drags along the ejection port side as it comes out.

But after looking at the pictures I'm guessing it's a metal magazine that has a tab at the front on the sides that is sctatching it.

If it was the feed ramps or the barrel extension lugs when travelling the other way the scratches would be straight lines and would probably be deeper.

Plastic "Pmag" style mag that only has a plastic lip.

No scratching if I hand load it in past the feed ramps.

It's almost as though the feed ramps arent wide enough and the bullet has to ride up the sides. As the bullet passes over the lips of the ramps it digs in. I think the zig zag pattern is from it digging in, sliding up, then digging in again and repeat.
 
So the cartridge in the pic has been run in out of the magazine/chamber more than once?

Rub your finger on the feed ramps, are the edges sharp? If so I'd be tempted to use a jewelry file and just smooth the edges out a little, just enough that they aren't sharp, by hand, no dremel.

The scratches don't look deep, you could always just ignore it and the ramps may eventually wear smooth. I doubt it will affect accuracy enough that you'll notice with a $200 barrel anyway though.

I would give it some time and just shoot it to make sure you got one that's going to last past 1000 rounds, by then it will either have smoothed out or you'll know what you want to do with it to modify it and that may include a new barrel.

What ammunition are you running?

That round has only been chambered once. The feed ramps feel razor sharp on the edges. If you run your finger across the bullet the scratch is deep enough to catch your fingernail on it.

I'm hesitant to take a file to it as the rifle is basically brand new, I started this thread more looking to see if others were experiencing this issue.

That round is lapua brass with a fmj bt 147gr projectile.
 
Mine gouges the crap out of the head of my brass when upon extraction/firing. Gouges and smears the brass bad enough that it's not even reloadable unless you were to file it down flat again one at a time.

Sent it back to them. Took almost 4 months to get it back. And it still does the same damn thing.

2 charging handles have fallen apart. Set screw falls out of the dust cover.

After 200 rounds the play between the upper and lower is a joke. They told me that's normal as the ceracote wears off.

Plus the accuracy is ass.

I still have mine but I consider it to be over priced junk.

If the scratches bother you then you can either send it back if they'll cover that or just take a small, fine, jewelery file and take the sharp edge off. Should only take a couple strokes, there's no risk of ruining anything as long as you clean out any filings.
Best solution would be to swap out the barrel for something that's going to give you better consistency. I would hold off on that for a while though, make sure you got a reliable rifle before spending any mooney and voiding the warranty.

I just re barreled my 102 and it still seems to scratch the bullet a bit. Also if I just let the bolt fly it dents the case pretty good.i. going to try pmags in the morning and see if it's better than with the xcr-m mags.
 
I had the same issue with a modern hunter in 260. I got the problem almost resolved by building an adjustable gas block. The reduced gas flow helped lots. I also took a swiss file to the sharp edges on the barrel extension. Hope this helps?
