Hey folks,

Just back from the range and thought I would share my thoughts after putting 70 rounds down range.

Before I left, I saw a facebook post claiming that they were getting 10moa groups with 55gr ammo, so I panicked a bit and bought some hornady black 75gr factory loads to come along with my hornady amax 55gr handloads (minimum charge) to give the rifle a quick test and have some fun.

Velocities quickly measured at 2260fps for the 55gr (keep in mind this is a minimum loading), and 2404fps for the 75gr Hornady black.

My shooting setup today was a magpul bipod, no rear rest, cross mag, airsoft 1.5" cheek riser, and a burris 2-7x32 fullfield II with E1 reticle. Shooting was done at 100m. I'll add a note here that that cheek riser with my optic mounting choice is absolutely perfect, which made shooting very enjoyable.

To my delight the rifle turned out to be outshooting the shooter with my amax handloads, however the 75gr hornady black did not fair so well. My amax handloads turned out a couple of good groups including a 1 1/8" 3rd group and a 1 3/8" 5rd group. I noticed once the barrel heated up I was getting a consistent flier in my other groups which would make them closer to 2". The 75gr Hornady black was abysmal at >2" for all of the groups shot with it. It also had fliers in every group. I attribute the fliers to a mediocre barrel quality that one would assume comes with any budget rifle.

The rifles action was dry and mostly smooth however I did notice it binded a couple of times when running the action. I suspect a combination of lube (rifle was not lubed prior to range trip) and break-in will remedy this. It performed very well otherwise. With a ar mag fed bolt action like this you need to work the action confidently and not gingerly because if you move the bolt back at all after pushing a round forwards in the mag it will double feed.

I didn't find the rifle to be loud, but I shoot a lot of SBRs so I always double up my earpro. I will still be installing a linear compensator.

Again, I noticed that this rifle really exudes an air of quality about it, and it seems surreal for the price paid. So far I am very happy with it. If BCL or the distributor are reading this MAKE THE SAME THING IN .308 PLEASE!

Enough rambling...

Thanks for the range report and the photos. Very nice photos - BCL can use them in promotional materials.

So the Hornadys did not fare well but handloads did. When you go next time, if you have any other factory ammo you can try it would be interesting if the experience was similar. Many of us just buy factory ammo, and I know it's hit and miss. Surprised about the Hornadys. For that price point, I would expect better performance. I was about to buy some Hornady Blacks last night but decided on the Nosler Match ones due to...sale...

Looks promising.... :)

Lap the bolt, bit of lithium grease and a few hundred more rounds and it should only get better!

The 75 grain hornady projectiles might not be getting enough velocity out of the short barrel to stabilize well.

Just a thought

how do you think an elcan would be on this? obviously with the cheek riser. I need to get my OS3 on something.

Had mine out for its first range trip today too and I was very impressed. Action is very smooth for a budget rifle and after a handful of rounds to sight in it was pretty easy to group under 2" with 55gr federal. I also didn't really find it loud, and only issue I found was one cheap Hera mag didn't feed as smoothly. 100% worth the price. As for the Ruger American comparison, I have one of those as well and love it, but the action on the Bison is far smoother.

D212 MRX or Renegade/Maverick which do you like/prefer? Ty.

They are both really great IMO. You can do the same thing with both. It comes down to do you have a lot of ar-15 parts you could use? Do you want an ar-15 looking rifle? Do you prefer straight pull or bolt action? What is your budget?

You can really customize parts with the renegade such as barrel length and quality, caliber, etc. If you are happy with the way the bison stands as it is and like bolt actions I would recommend it.

So there's a lot to consider there, and it will be down to your personal preference.

Do you think this rifle would be better with a 1/8 or 1/9 twist rate instead of the 1/7? I'm thinking it may be tough to load anything heavier than maybe a 77gr bullet into an ar mag. Is the ejection port large enough to facilitate easy single loading?
Thanks for the review!
