BCL MRX BISON Part 1

I should check before posting this, but this rifle in x39 or .300 blackout would probably make for a handy deer rifle.

Im pretty sure these are only in 5.56/.223 right now but I might be tempted to grab one if it comes in a deer legal round

Do you think this rifle would be better with a 1/8 or 1/9 twist rate instead of the 1/7? I'm thinking it may be tough to load anything heavier than maybe a 77gr bullet into an ar mag. Is the ejection port large enough to facilitate easy single loading?
Thanks for the review!

Nah, seems fine with 55gr so far. Yea, I'll be experimenting with some 75gr loads. I suspect we can get something better with different ammo or handloads. I'll be doing handloads. I also need to get a better optic that has a smidge more magnification range ( a 2-10x would be great), but I just won't have the budget for that for a while unfortunately.

both of those calibers are slotted to be released. I'd be tempted to switch to 300blk so that I can use it for hunting. But... I want to see something similar made in .308, that would be amazing.

This is the type of information that I was looking for. I have been on the fence with this unit. Its always nice support a Canadian made product. I have read that in the past there were some quality control and customer service issue. Not sure if this is true or accurate. I always like to get the real world experience from fellow CGN'rs. Thanks for sharing and posting

Or Grendel, which is deer capable and would probably require minimal design changes to the current configuration.

Yea that would be good. I personally have a lot of experience and equipment invested in .308 and it will take down big game no problem which is why I prefer that cartridge. Even with a shorty barrel it's quite potent if loaded correctly.

300 definitely outshines .308 in such a short barrel...half the inputs for practically the same performance (out of such a short barrel)

Sounds like you attended a Bill Bliar Community Consultation Session. ;)

This just looks to me like a Norinco Ar15 ####ed a Remington 700 and walked through the Tapco website...........presto!!

Just have to tweak it a little.........

ah man..... lucky for me I swallowed my coffee before your post forced the laughter out of me..... Good One !!

I also picked one of these up because I have a thing for short barrel rifles. I had only bought some off the shelf cheap Federal, PMC, and Winchester to try before leaving for work and the accuracy wasn't great with that stuff. I'll be hand loading a bunch of different stuff up including some Hornady and campro 55 grain and hopefully some 75-77 grain projectiles too. Will try some different powders as well. I'm confident that I will be able to achieve that 1.5 moa they advertise or else they will fix the problem with warranty. BCL seems pretty aswesome to deal with so far from my limited experience. They seem pretty commited to a positive customer service now.

I attribute the fliers to a mediocre barrel quality that one would assume comes with any budget rifle.

Again, I noticed that this rifle really exudes an air of quality about it, and it seems surreal for the price paid.

I don't understand how you can say in the same post that it's a budget rifle with a mediocre barrel and yet exudes quality

The BCL Bison is 3.12kg with a 12' barrel retails for $1000 and is getting greater than 1moa with handloads (which fair enough might not be tailored to the rifle) and high end ammo while:

A Tikka T3X is 2.66kg with a 22.4' barrel costs $1000 with a 1MOA guarantee (Cabelas)
A Ruger American is 2.76kg with a 16' barrel which also takes AR mags costs $730 (GoTenda)
A Mossberg MVP is 3.17kg with a 16.25' barrel which also takes AR mags costs $800 (Firearms Outlet Canada)

What is the niche of the Bison? It is heavier, less accurate and highly priced but with significantly less ranged capability that all of it's competitors.

Forgive me OP I just don't see where the value of this rifle is for the money paid, if you enjoy it then fantastic but I just can't justify spending money on it for hunting, target shooting, coyotes or more when there are cheaper better alternatives out there for each type of shooting mentioned.

Hopefully this came across the right way, I own a Type 81 and therefore cannot say anything about value for money with a straight face :)
