Starting this thread to keep track of what ammo has been tested in the BCL/NEA102 in the other threads, this is not an accuracy thread, this is a functionality thread where ammo is tested to feed, fire, extract properly.

If you are testing ammo with xcr mags please fill mag to 9 rounds only and dremel the left spine corner.

I believe BAD ammo so far: single or multiple Function failures on FTF or FTE
FNM NATO Ball
Hornady 155gr american gunner .308
Aguila 762x51
Norinco Copper washed

Good Ammo: No failures on FTF or FTE
AE 150gr FMJ BT
XM80 (each rifle test fired by NEA using this ammo)
Norma Match 168gr
Barnes 150gr TSX
R1M1 ball surplus
Hirtenberger 165 grain soft point
Hirtenberger 147
Federal 150 grain soft point
Federal 180 grain soft point
Federal premium 165 grain Sierra Game King

I shot 80 rounds Aguila 7.62x51. Three times it failed to fully extract & eject the spent case prior to trying to chamber a round. This happened with both the xcr and imi mags. That was the only brand I had with me so I was unable to test anything else.

I' ve got 3 lapua load that i will be testing as soon as my rifle arrive... will keep you posted.

308 Win -175gr Scenar
.308 Win. 185gr. (12g) HPBT Scenar
.308 Win. 170gr. (11g) Naturalis LR

Also have
S&B 180gr FMJ i can test

Anyone try out the Hirt 147gr ? I've got a boatload of it to use.

Then I'll top up the cases with Hrndy 150 gr fmjbt's and some ammount of Varget. Can't wait.

Then there's the Hrndy 165 sst's ..... lots of R&D comming.

I've ran through a ton of Hirt 147. No problems at all! I mentioned in another post but I bought a bunch of 168 gr Federal GMM and 168 Hornady Amax Match to try , and then some 165 Federal Fusion (soft point boat tail).

AR10s are a lot more finicky with ammo than AR15s , if anyone wanted to ensure you can run any ammo at any time, consider upgrading to an adjustable gas block.

It would be more accurate to say that AR-10s prefer ammo made for them, imho.
Modern store bought .308 ammo is for the most part designed to give performance in bolt guns, and the surplus out there can be dubious.
Handloading is about the best option out there for quality ammo at an affordable price.

Hornady Black is good stuff and loaded with semi auto modern rifles in mind. Be nice to hear if the 102 likes them as much as my MH. It preferred the 155 to the 168s

Well I took mine to the range yesterday and ran 3 different ammo. Winchester 150g power points, pmc bronze 147g and hornady superformance 165g sst. The results were...... let's just say less than stellar. Best group, or should I say cluster was about 6 inches. 2 holes within 3/4 and the third 6 inches high and left. Going to try and find some of the ammo others have had success with and try again.

Get someone else to try it if possible, as well.

A 3 shot group with a flyer six inches away is likely the shooter.

If you are getting groups that bad, I would check your optic mounts to make sure they are secure on the rifle and scope, and that there are no problems with your optic itself. This rifle should shoot better than that judging from the reports so far. Check your firearm for defects, look in the barrel, check the bolt and its lugs, check your spent casings for anything unusual. Because we have no idea of your shooting ability, I will give you a friendly reminder to make sure you are following through with your trigger pull while maintaining alignment of your reticle on the target, IE slow pull while the reticle is on target until the firearm discharges for every shot. Make sure that the trigger is contacting the middle of the tip of your trigger finger while pulling.

What distance were you shooting at by the way? I assume 100yds?

I was shooting at 100. Mounted a viper 3-9 in a Burris pepr I piece. Seems solid. As for another shooter, I shoot 338 win, 45/70 and 375 h&h with sub moa groups regularly. I'm not adverse to recoil.

Good to know, so perhaps it is picky with ammuntion or potentially has a defect of some kind. Thanks for the report and keep us updated! I still have to live vicariously through you guys since somehow the shipment for my rifle seems to have gone into a black hole.

I think the distributor fed themselves before feeding the dealers that ordered 102's...

Supposedly the shipment was sent to my retailer 10 days ago. Who knows. I am starting to lose my patience knowing that people on the west coast have had them since mid-late last week.

I will wait a couple more days before I get too grumpy :p

in your opinion do you think small base dies are going to be required or will fl sizing be enough ???

I've never needed small base dies, regardless of caliber. I would figure these rifles won't have a tight chamber and FL will work just fine.
I'm waiting to see one in person and the IOP before I buy one, so like others, living vicariously through these posts.
