New Siberian showed up a week ago. So far it only has 500 rounds through it but by end of August I should have about 5000 rounds through it assuming it doesn't break or something.

This rifle needed some "break in" for the first 150 or rounds. At first I was a little annoyed because while I recognize breaking in is a thing and I've had to do it with many firearms I really think guns should be ready to go out of the box. But I've seen it with multiple semi rifles, semi pistols and pump actions like Mossberg and Remington. But with the exception of Remington 870 with detach mags I've never had trouble inserting a magazine right out of the box, and the BCL was a really tight fit for the first 10 or 15 magazines. Then whatever part of the machining or finishing that was holding it up finally wore off and the mags go in just fine now (Almost all Cross Mags) So less annoyed now.

I scavenged a Vortex AR red dot off my WK-180 Gen 1 and installed it and was pleased to note I needed to make zero corrections. Right off the bat I was hitting 6" gongs at 100. Maybe if I push it out further I may have to fine tune but right now it's fine.

The controls on the rifle seem pretty good, close enough to an AR15 which I am very familiar with.

So far I like the rifle better than my WS-MCR's and my WK-180 which decided to start breaking gas rods after it hit 6000 rounds, despite installing new guide hole plugs or whatever they are called. The WS-MCR's are just reliable beasts that just chug away and I've had to replace minimal parts and still remain reasonably accurate despite having in excess of 10K rounds through them. But the BCL feels better, the receiver is more enclosed and has better controls.

Out of the box the BCL was tight, tight, tight. Everything was tight and needed that break in but it gets more reliable with every magazine shot.

But it's only 500 rounds, we will see how it goes. I'll probably be at about 1000 rounds in a week or two so I'll post about any good or bad stuff.

PS I have no intention of covering it in mud or sand to see what happens, nor do I intend to just load up 1000 rounds in magazines and pull the trigger as fast as I can to see what happens. That stuff is fun and all, but completely irrelevant to how I (or most shooters) use a rifle. :)

Always enjoyable to read your practical take on guns - your experience with multiple similar platforms and your no-nonsense approach to reviewing them is appreciated.

Real world testing like your doing ( and how most people use their rifles) is better then doing mag dumps till the thing blows up
Ya it takes longer to do the testing but thats how it is
Hopefully the Siberian holds up better then the wk 180

I’ll be following this one.

I found since I started drenching my guns in G96, letting them sit a few days and then adding some drops of shell Roteilla T6 0W40 synthetic diesel oil, that I haven’t required any break in for new firearms. Won’t fix tight mags from cerakote. Oh and this combo works in -50. Ya, I don’t want to talk about it..

Thank you, a real world test as normally used!

Hopefully you will do an accuracy test as well.

I'm a big proponent of G96, we call it magic juice. I've used other synthetic oils in the past, maybe I'll look at that one too

Thanks, I am fortunate enough to own many firearms and most get shot often and liberally

I agree in testing real world the way you use your firearm, although the mag dump and mud test videos are very entertaining. I particularly used to like the full auto mag dumps posted by some USA guys until their guns lit on fire and kept shooting for a bit longer. :)

I thought about doing that but I think there are multiple accuracy tests for this rifle already done and to learn the maximum accuracy information from a rifle I would want to handload quality ammunition with a a quality bullet and I'm probably not going to bother as this is more of a range blaster for me. But maybe I will toss on a spare scope and try it out...But it will probably be awhile before I have time to do that.

Here's a pic, but it looks like all the rest of them. :)

I will say that the criticisms of the handguard are valid. It looks cool but doesn't seem designed for cooling. There are so many more established handguard designs that work for cooling, BCL could have still made it look cool but be efficient in cooling. Although 100 rounds in a row it doesn't seem too bad. Only 200 rounds today but not all at once.

The stock is great though. I find it very comfy and love the folding feature as it will fit in a Tavor size case.

.
Is this a Gen 2?

No idea...

I don't even know there was a Gen 1 or 2. If there is I would have preferred a Gen 2 so maybe I got a Gen 1 on sale? Because it was a pretty good price.

Also, I rarely use a magazine as a monopod but I understand that is a failure point so maybe I will try that tomorrow and see what happens. Both of my friends with Siberians say they don't monopod well so I presume a failure but I'll let you guys know.

It’s a very nice looking carbine. I’ve only hesitated due to some of the reports along with disassembling.

With regards to the shell rotella t6 0w40. I drench the firearm in G96, even wipe some on the outside to help protect the exterior finish. Let soak and then add the oil to the high wear points on the carrier group. Carrier tracks in the action etc. G96 is definitely the real magic. Cut my cleaning time significantly.

with a a quality bullet

62 grain Hornady FMJ, at least the last 1500 have been stellar for the cost. Decent groups out of the X95, RDB, and just under MOA 10 shot groups out of my factory barrel 783. They even shoot pretty decent out of the 30" 1 in 6.5 twist that's on the 783 now, and that was worked up for the X95 to be light shooting/reliable

I have about 1000 75gr ELDM bullets. If I load for this rifle I will probably give them a try. I probably have a bunch of 62 gr bullets too but I would have to look.

I just realized I never looked at the twist on this rifle :)

Anyway, only 150 rounds today. No failures. Mags are easy to insert now. Tried monopod with 5 rounds from Pmag and 10 rounds of cross mag. They all fired but 15 rounds is not anywhere near a conclusive study. :)

300 more rounds.

One failure to go into battery but when I ejected the round it was slightly deformed. Was it deformed prior to going in or did the feeding deform it? I don't know. But I've seen pretty much every defect in ammo previously and deformed or out of sized ammo is a thing (Also no primer, backwards primer, backwards bullets and even jacketed bullets that have almost no lead core are a thing) As far as I can tell the rifle itself has not deformed any ammo previously so???

Otherwise it was all good. Mags go in easy now (Cross mags for the most part) I still almost never magpod but maybe I'll try it again in the future.

I leally like the buttstock to shoot and how it folds but it is a tiny bit difficult to engage the button to extend it. Maybe it's my giant fingers but the button to engage the extension is not nearly as convenient as a standard extendable stock. A minor nitpick I guess.

Another 200 rounds today.

So we are at 1150 rounds now, Guess I will edit the title :)

1000 rounds into mine but now i think its a safe queen. Feel as though while alot of these canadian semi autos shoot great they arent built for heavy use. and i dont want it to break cause you cant get replacment parts anywhere

It´s literally in production and under warranty. A large number of the parts of these firearms are AR15 parts.

You can get parts any time, it makes no sense at all to make this rifle a safe dweller because it´s a cheap, easy to replace parts rifle.

Went over 2000 rounds today. I got two light strike in the same magazine using winchester 55gr ammo. So I squirted in some G96 and it ran another 70 rounds no problem. We will see what happens tomorrow. Maybe IU should give it a clean after the weekend.

Another 200 rounds today and the G96 seems to have worked because no light strikes or problems. I will pop it open and give it a quick clean, see what is up. One of the things I love about the 180's compared to AR15's is how clean they stay. The DI system works great but they sure get messy

Sorry I don't have any dramatic reports of massive failures, but that could come along, I suppose. Just don't ask me for burn down or mud tests. :)
