I picked up my BCL102 from the second preorder on Thursday. Heading out to shoot it today so more to follow on that later, but.... While playing around and inspecting it at home I noticed there's an odd issue with the dust cover. Seems like there is too much space on either side of the cover, so it can move fore and aft a good eighth of an inch. When it moves too far aft, it pops open. Anyone else notice that with theirs? I figure I can probably file a little groove in the dust cover hinge pin and put another circlip on it, but it's a little irritating. Probably an oversight during the redesign where they messed with the shell deflector and added the lug (extra weight) behind the handguard.

Same issue with my first gen. Seems the centreline of hinge pin and the covers latch is too short for space machined into the upper.
Wouldn't hold closed at all until I clamped the dust cover a bit tighter onto the hinge pin. Now only pops open if rifle is jarred reasonably.

Jesus....I bought an NEA upper 4 years ago that had the same issue, entire ejection port was out of spec and too large so there was a gap all around the dust cover.
So much for learning from their mistake lol

Well, irritating dust cover issue aside, took it to the range today and it shot great. 1MOA groups with federal XM80 and better with some hand loads that were built up for a friend's 10TR.

Looking at the dust cover on mine that just arrived today (yay) it almost looks like they should have milled the tiniest bit more of a recess for the dust cover pin to move left or right or am I wrong ?

The cover is smaller than the port opening area so there will be that gap I suppose but if there was a wider notch the cover would slide back and forth that 1/16 to 1/8" I would think and not pop open.

I think they just milled the ejection port a little too big, there shouldn't be that much play in the cover. but yeah if they milled that recess a little wider to accommodate the play the cover has, that would probably work too.

Aye,

my Gen 2 dust cover is approx 3mm too 'short' and moves around. The seal isn't complete.

I guess this picture represents the current state of gen2 receivers/dust covers.

Lol.. it seems to work, look at all that dust *outside* the rifle! :)

Hopefully I’m not stating the obvious, but I hope people are letting SFRC and BCL know about this. Hopefully they can sort this out without too much asspain and delay. Also, SFRC and BCL will step up and pay to have this addressed at no cost to the buyer.

I sent my Gen 1 back to BCL twice on my dime, cost me well over $120 so that they can fix their mistakes and lack of QA/CQ

The dust cover locks up in the centre. You can push it forward or backwards to release it. You don't need to pull the bolt back to open the dust cover. Should you wish remove this, you can put a spacer at either end...at least that is my understanding. Remember this isn't an AR10/AR15.

If you have an issue with the firearm or with anything feel free to drop BCL an email, they will correct any issues that may arise...it has a life time warranty. Doug usually gets back to people very quickly...he handles all warranty issues for BCL.

Have ANY of them been produced that aren't ####ed in one way or another???

Given the image posted above it looks like NEA just slapped an AR-15 ejection port cover they had laying around on the shop floor just to get the gun out the door.
