BCL102 dust cover issue

I get your points, but that was a different era of manufacturing. Now, a company can put out a high quality product as a start up, PSA, Aero, Spikes, Rainier, etc. Even Daniel Defense is one of the top tiers and is only 15 years old... there is a long list of brand new (US) companies that got into the game in the last 5-15 years and had a lot of success because they made quality products from the start.

Yes Sir, I 100% agree with you on this.

I like BCL-NEA for the innovation that they are bringing to the market for us right here and from our very own back yard, Canada.

Ryan, I’ll respectfully disagree that this is somehow some sort of bonus feature. I’m not sure why you feel the need to make excuses for BCL.

I can push it or pull it to open it? Give me a break. I highly doubt that you’ll find a single customer that finds this “benefit” appealing. While it is not classified as an “AR15” it is fairly clear that a lot of the appeal for this rifle is that it is a non-restricted “AR” style of rifle in .308. In fact, it is supposedly based on the AR-102 and I don’t ever recall an ejection port opening that is too large for the ejection port cover to function properly being touted as a feature. Mind you I wasn’t around in the 50’s so who knows.

This simply appears to be more sloppy QC on their part. I find it troubling that rather than trying to fix the issue or hold BCL responsible that you’re trying to pass it off as a desirable feature.

Since you’ve decided to weigh in on the issue perhaps you could give us the proper specs of the rifle and tell us what may or may not be perceived as “features”. You could also maybe inform us of the actual warranty and what procedure to follow since BCL doesn’t feel it necessary to include that information with their product. I also have to question whether this issue would be covered under warranty since you seem to be implying that it is functioning as intended. We’ll have to take your word for it I suppose since BCL lists absolutely zero specs for this rifle. In fact, it isn’t even listed on their website.

We don't need no stinking dust cover.

I love the slide open feature, allows me to open the dust cover in my stand nice and quiet.

The dust cover locks up in the centre. You can push it forward or backwards to release it. You don't need to pull the bolt back to open the dust cover. Should you wish remove this, you can put a spacer at either end...at least that is my understanding. Remember this isn't an AR10/AR15.

If you have an issue with the firearm or with anything feel free to drop BCL an email, they will correct any issues that may arise...it has a life time warranty. Doug usually gets back to people very quickly...he handles all warranty issues for BCL.

Lol dude, come on.

How many people actually close their dust cover anyways ?

This is my first rifle with one, and so far I just leave the cover flapped open, I'm honestly tempted to remove it altogether but it's not in the way when open, so why bother.

For anyone who has ever qualified on a C7 closing the dust cover is just automatic, when it pops back open when you try to close it because it's too far back in its sloppy range of motion it's just annoying. Now I know it's not a C7, it's not an AR15 or an AR10 but it's trying pretty hard to look and feel like one without actually being one. And a dust cover you have to consciously ensure is aligned to get it to close is a pretty dumb "feature"

Way back in the days and I mean way back, before most of you where even born, the very first Colt AR's (SP1's) came for sale in Canada with what everyone thought was the exact same issue.

Then later in the mid to late 80's converted auto Armalite AR10's came into Canada with mostly damaged ejection port covers.

About this same time I used to tour the U.S. gun show circuit, buying parts and building custom Ar's.

One part that alway's caught my eye was an oversized ejection port cover.

Well,, I bought my fare share for replacement on SP1's and the AR10's

I wonder if they still make them?????????????

BTW,,,, Colt's quality control back then made anything that NEA suffered pretty dam insignificant right up into the early 90's.

Just ask me, I have had hundreds pass through my hands for work and repairs.

and guess what I own now,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "NEA's" and one DPMS that had a tour of IRAQ.

I get real tired of all the "NEA Bashing"

All the big boys names in manufacturing suffered the same, just long before you guys where even around.

Back in my Camp Perry days, early 90's, there sure was a lot of the same talk as I was friends with most of the "on sight military armorer's"

I even had the opportunity to meet the Gentleman himself "Carlos Hathcock" and what a Gentleman he was.

Guess what company out of Kitchener, Ontario had teething problems in the early days????

I will give you a hint, a name that starts with a D and ended with a O

Yes Sir, the AR God, Diemaco!!!!!

The very first C7's had lots of issues, believe me.

I have been around for a while.

That took me back - SP1's that wouldn't feed, and if they did they wouldn't hit anything, Delta HBAR's that were absolute disasters, re-torquing barrel nuts on new guns, tails broken off disconnectors, pins that were one dimension at the ends and entirely another in the middle - ah, the good old days. Colt's QC was so bad, people bought Oly's instead. When you bought a new $1000 (1985 - when $1K was serious cash) 1911 pistol and your first transport permit wasn't home - it was to your gunsmith to spend another $400 to get it to feed ball, lock open and take away the 9lb trigger pull, and make it so the back sight didn't fly off on your first mag.

I just got off the phone with BCL and they said to contact them in the new year if you have an issue with your dust cover.

That was nice of them.... Though I suppose there is just no pleasing some people... I can almost hear the cries of, "Serial number and address? That sounds like a backdoor registry, man!"
Hehehe

So does this mean that it’s not supposed to open if it gets pushed forward? I’m confused, a minute ago it was some kind of bonus feature.

Some people don’t like it so they can can a larger dust cover I believe.
